Conservative columnist Ann Coulter got the ultimate slap from Donald Trump on Wednesday night: he unfollowed her on Twitter.


The exclusive club of people whose social media feeds the president scrolls through on his smartphone has always been modest, mostly consisting of accounts from his family and his business.


But a handful of media commentators including Fox News hosts Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham; Fox alumni Eric Bolling, Greta Van Susteren and Bill O'Reilly; and DailyMail.com Editor-at-Large Piers Morgan have been among his mainstays.



Coulter got the axe three hours after tweeting about her latest syndicated column, titled 'Gutless president in wall-less country.'

Coulter, a conservative columnist and author who had been a reliable Trump supporter, lost patience with the president's slow approach to building a border wall and said he was running a 'joke presidency'

Three hours later, the president dropped Coulter from the list of just 46 Twitter accounts he followed

That unmistakable break from Trumpworld comes at a time when a lame-duck Congress is refusing to provide enough funding to construct his long-promised wall between the U.S. and Mexico.


After appearing to buckle, Trump returned to his hard-line position on Thursday morning, tweeting that he 'will not sign' congressional legislation, 'including infrastructure, unless it has perfect Border Security.'


'We foolishly fight for Border Security for other countries – but not for our beloved U.S.A. Not good!' he added hours later, after placing an 'emergency' call to House Speaker Paul Ryan during a critical Republican Conference meeting about an eleventh-hour bid to avoid a partial government shutdown.


Coulter had already run out of patience.


'Either Trump never intended to build the wall and was scamming voters all along, or he has no idea how to get it done and zero interest in finding out,' Coulter writes.


'He's not interested in doing anything that would require the tiniest bit of effort,' Coulter claimed. 'In the end, we'll probably find out "wall" was Trump's "safe word" with Stormy Daniels. It's just something he blurts out whenever he's in trouble.'


That's a far cry from Coulter's Trump-friendly positions in 2015 and 2016, when she went all-in for the future commander-in-chief – even penning a book titled 'In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome!'


At the time Trump noticed. 'People are saying it's terrific – knowing Ann I am sure it is!' he tweeted.

Three weeks before he launched his campaign with a now-iconic ride down a Trump Tower escalator, he congratulated Coulter on her previous book, a 'great read' titled: 'Adios, America! The Left's Plan to Turn Our Country into a Third World Hellhole.'
It seemed timed to be a virtual donation to his presidential aspirations.





Coulter's most recent book was titled 'In Trump We Trust'


Trump reboooted the mutual admiration society on Twitter during the 2016 Iowa Caucus season: '@AnnCoulter has been amazing. We will win and establish strong borders, we will build a WALL and Mexico will pay. We will be great again!'


Coulter has gradually lost patience with his border policy, and it showed Wednesday during a podcast interview with The Daily Caller.


Asked if Americans should re-elect the president, she responded: 'Why would you ?'
'Trump will just have been a joke presidency who scammed the American people, amused the populists for a while, but he’ll have no legacy whatsoever.'


The president's final-straw moment with Coulter showed up on Trump Alert, an automated Twitter account that tracks who members of the Trump family follow, unfollow and retweet.


The president's collection of favorite accounts went from 46 to 45 on Wednesday evening.

They both will be fine. Big personalities and they both like to push buttons at times.

In my opinion, Ann's very public and strong support for the border wall and her words in the media through her writings and interviews have helped to keep the president accountable to American citizens.

Adios America, the title of one of Ann Coulter's best selling books, is our future without a wall, full border security, interior enforcement and serious increases in deportation.

Without a promised wall and addressing illegal immigration in general, shouts of "America First" ring hollow.

So thankful that Ann Coulter has the integrity and audacity to take Trump to task and hold him accountable for his broken and unfulfilled campaign promises.
