Thread: It Gets Worse!

Per my earlier thread about the Mexican American Legal Defense & Education Fund....the readings on their site get worse! Here is a paragraph sure to inflame from a document to be found on their site at http://www.maldef.org/fair/index.htm:

"Further, MALDEF provided extensive oral and written comments to the California State Commission on the implementation guidelines for Proposition 10, the tobacco tax set to fund early childhood development for California's infants and toddlers. As a result the state commission guidelines now explicitly recognize that all young children are eligible for initiative-funded programs, regardless of their immigration status. At MALDEF'S urging, the funding distribution guidelines also included commitments to create childcare facilities in urban Latino communities, to focus on the issue of pesticide exposure to children of farm workers, to develop culturally and linguistically appropriate media/outreach efforts and to utilize a diversity task force as part of the program. "

Note that all these programs mentioned above are to benefit ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CHILDREN (whether the child is an anchor kid or not)

My own son had lead poisoning as a toddler because our 200 yr old home was filled with it when we rennovated and blew the lead dust all around the house (unaware of the lead problem). MY SON never received any state benefits or healthcare. We had to abate the lead and treat our son at our own expense and in fact were ordered to by the state, who receives blood tests by law where lead is concerned, or face child neglect charges. He also has learning disabilities now because of it and his health insurance won't cover services (we have no health insurance. Only he does because we can't afford it), the school didn't provide services....so I have to get it myself at my own expense. Don't you LOVE all the freebies these illegals get that we can't get?

That kind of stuff can really piss some people off!

I'm thinking that you should compile what your finding there in one document. That information boiled down to it's essence would make a powerful statement to those who are not yet awake.

barkway, I would be most interested in getting a detailed write-up of your plight. And with your permission, I would like to use it throughout the development of my position on health care reform (which everyone thus far seems to have promised yet never delivered).
