Thread: UC Riverside Student Faces Up to One Year in Jail over Alleged MAGA Hat Theft

UC Riverside student Edith Macias has reportedly been charged with one misdemeanor count of grand theft for a September incident in which she allegedly stole a MAGA hat from one of her peers.



A video of Macias allegedly stealing a MAGA hat went viral on social media in September. In a video that was originally posted to Facebook, Macias allegedly removed the hat from student Matthew Vitale’s head and took it to the campus student life office.

“UCR is letting people wear this shit on campus? Make American Great Again, really? There were lynchings and genocide and mass deportations. … I f*cking hate this country. … And I am not leaving. … We need to get rid of all ya’ll,” Macias says in the video.

“F*ck your freedom of speech boy, your freedom of speech is literally killing a lot of people out there, your hats like these that promote laws and legislation that literally kill and murder people of color,” she added.

According to a document provided to The College Fix by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, Macias has been charged with one misdemeanor count of grand theft. Her next scheduled court date will take place in March 2018. According to a spokesman for the district attorney’s office, Macias could face up to one year in county jail.

Vitale told The College Fix that he is satisfied with the DA office’s decision to charge Macias. He praised the “professionalism” of the University of California Police Department but lamented that UC Riverside likely let Macias off with no punishment. “I’m very pleased that the DA decided to charge her, especially because I am skeptical that UCR student conduct did anything. I will be following up with the student conduct office to determine if anything was done,” he said.

Vitale went on to explain that the charges against Macias should serve as a message to college students around the country as to what conduct is acceptable with regards to political discourse.

A student at UC Riverside stole another student’s MAGA hat, and threatened him.

Matthew Vitale was minding his own business when Edith Macias stole his MAGA hat off of his head, and then took off running. Matthew followed her into the campus office and asked her repeatedly to give his hat back. Edith screamed, cursed, and even threatened Matthew. Finally, the staff in the office got his hat back. When Edith attempted to storm out, she was greeted by campus security. But it does not seem as if anything was done about her behavior.

Matthew recorded the incident and posted the video to Facebook saying,

This is the face of the modern left. They are people who think they are better than you, think they know better than you, and think they can make decisions for you. People like this are what universities across America are putting out into this world.

Edith also posted another video from the same incident to her Facebook page, but it has since been removed. Along with the video, Edith wrote,

On Edith’s Facebook page, she says that her mother is here in America, illegally.



From the looks of Edith’s Facebook page, it seems she has attended protests against President Trump, the wall being built, and the police. She has also posted about Black Lives Matters event, so I’m assuming she attends those as well.









Edith shared an article about witches casting spells on our President, so there’s a chance she was involved in that as well.



Edith may be part of Antifa. On Jan. 21st, Edith posted a photo of herself to Facebook, wearing a black mask like Antifa members do.



Edith clearly has an issue with white people.



Edith receives financial aid. She posted to Facebook that she was using her financial aid to rent an apartment, but shortly after stealing Matthew’s hat, she started a go fund me, claiming to need funds for an apartment.



From looking at Edith’s Facebook, I’d say she’s always been a hateful person. In a post on FB, she wrote, “I was taught to hate myself before I ever learned that loving myself was an option…” Now she’s taking that hate out on everyone else. Typical liberal.

Student who stole MAGA hat faces up to one year in jail after DA files charge

A UC Riverside student who stole a peer’s Make America Great Again hat off his head and refused to give it back now faces steep legal consequences.

A criminal complaint provided to The College Fixby the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office states that Edith Macias has been charged with one misdemeanor count of grand theft for the September 27 incident.

The next court date on the matter is slated for March, and the maximum penalty Macias faces if convicted as currently charged is one year in county jail, a spokesman for the DA’s office told The Fix.



The charge was filed after UC Riverside student Matthew Vitale, the student who had his Make America Great Again hat stolen from off his head, decided to press criminal theft charges against Macias.

According to the declaration in support of an arrest warrant, Macias told the officer who responded to the incident that the reason she swiped the hat was because it represented “genocide of a bunch of people.”

“She stated she wanted to burn the hat because of what it represented,” it states.

In a now-viral video of the incident, Macias stormed into a student services office with the hat and declared: “UCR is letting people wear this shit on campus? Make American Great Again, really? There were lynchings and genocide and mass deportations. … I ****ing hate this country. … And I am not leaving. … We need to get rid of all ya’ll.”

After Vitale demanded his hat back she replied: “**** your freedom of speech boy, your freedom of speech is literally killing a lot of people out there, your hats like these that promote laws and legislation that literally kill and murder people of color,” she continued.

In a statement to The College Fix on Monday, Vitale said he is gratified by the developments.

“I’m very pleased that the DA decided to charge her, especially because I am skeptical that UCR student conduct did anything. I will be following up with the student conduct office to determine if anything was done,” Vitale said.

“In the meantime, I can’t thank UCPD enough for actually taking this matter seriously. The detective and officers involved with this case were the epitome of professionalism,” he added. “If, as I suspect, UCR decided not to discipline her in some way this decision by the DA’s office shows two things: First, that UCR does not protect and shows no respect for speech that does not conform to their ideology. Second, that in this case UCR chose not to discipline a person who committed a crime on campus against another student.”

A video of Macias grabbing the hat off Vitale’s head was posted on Facebook by Macias, who stated in her self-titled “#Snatchahat” post: “‘Make America Great Again’ coded ‘Continue the Genocide of POC’. You feel safe cuz you got the cops and politicians on your side.

Youre not safe… just saying. We need to make racists scared.” (The video has since been taken down.)

After Vitale had requested charges be brought against Macias, he explained his motives to The College Fix: “I do want to send a message. I am not vindictive, I am not vengeful, but people especially in my generation need to realize you can’t do things like this because you don’t like what someone is saying or wearing.”

I hope that the authorities and courts do put Edith Macias in jail for a year to make it clear to these illegal aliens that will take power if Amnesty like DACA passes into law that freedom of speech prevails in America today!

Edith Macias represents the views of many illegal immigrants and "people of color" who hate whites to the point they believe crimes can be committed and be justified by their subjective social justice.
