Washington State Libertarian Party Sues To Remove Mitt Romney From Ballot

The Libertarian Party of Washington state sued the state secretary of state on Thursday, claiming that Mitt Romney's name should be removed from the general election ballot.The lawsuit in state Superior Court cites Washington's 2010 Senate race, when Democrat Patty Murray narrowly won reelection against her Republican competitor, Dino Rossi. Washington state law requires a major party's nominee to garner at least 5 percent of the vote in a statewide race during even years.

However, Rossi was never technically nominated by the state Republican party, and the primary election he won is not technically considered a nominating process, according to the Associated Press.As reported by the Seattle alternative weekly The Stranger, the state Libertarian Party accuses Secretary of State Sam Reed, a Republican, of giving the state GOP a free pass by trying "modify or alter" state law, known as the Revised Code of Washington, with state regulations, called the Washington Administrative Code. The administrative code applies the 5 percent requirement, but only to presidential races and not mid-term elections. In 2008, John McCain was formally nominated and received about 40 percent of the state's popular vote. Reed's office requested a bill to amend the Revised Code of Washington to meet the State Administrative Code, but it failed during the state legislature's last session.Therefore, the lawsuit says, the state Republican Party is a minor party, and, because the deadline for a minor political party to qualify a candidate has passed, Romney's name should be removed from the ballot.Even if the state Superior Court rules in favor of Reed, it is unlikely Romney would win Washington's 12 electoral votes in November. A HuffPost analysis of polls shows President Barack Obama is likely to win more than 50 percent of the state's vote. In fact, a Republican hasn't won the Evergreen State since 1984, when Ronald Reagan won reelection in a nationwide landslide.

I am beginning to wonder who is financing this "New" libertarian push. They are going to insure that Obama is re-elected. There are lessons to be remembered the last time we had a "spoiler" candidate. Ross Perot insured that we had Clinton. JMO.

Seems to me the GOP establishment would be the only ones to blame IF Romney were to lose. But of course, they'll blame a legitimate dissenting grassroots movement the first chance they get after a potential loss, as opposed to themselves. These two parties, the bailed out bankers, and the top 1% are shoving these two candidates down our throats and many of us will not sit idly by as they chip away at what is left our country.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and that is what makes this country great.

I think we all know there is no viable 3rd party candidate, which leaves us with only three real choices (IMO) ....... vote Obama, vote Romney, or not vote.

Voting for any of several minor party candidates is a legitimate choice of how to use YOUR vote. As is writing in a candidate of your choice, such as Mickey Mouse, Donald duck, Your Own Name, or my favorite NONE OF THE ABOVE. Not voting is also a legitimate choice. It's your vote. You can do whatever you want with it.

Call them the unlikely voters.
A nationwide USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll of people who are eligible to vote but aren't likely to do so finds that these stay-at-home Americans back Obama's re-election over Republican Mitt Romney by more than 2-1. Two-thirds of them say they are registered to vote. Eight in 10 say the government plays an important role in their lives.

Even so, they cite a range of reasons for declaring they won't vote or saying the odds are no better than 50-50 that they will: They're too busy. They aren't excited about either candidate. Their vote doesn't really matter. And nothing ever gets done, anyway.

Although I'm young, I bet both parties have used this same tactic for the last couple of decades to get their voters to fall in line. How do you older folks not get bored of these two parties spewing the same load of crap election after election? I'd like to see an independent publication Photoshop this and add a Romney to the left of the board facing the other side. Readers would get the meaning behind that one.

I don't think all, or even most, 3rd party voters would vote for Romney if they didn't vote for their candidate. Some would vote for Obama and some of them would stay home and not vote before they would vote for either of the 2 party candidates.
