WATCH: Hillary Takes Stage At Rally, Immediately Hears Noise That Makes Her Flee

Protesters Accuse Clinton Of Being Accomplice To Honduran Violence

    "... you’re not welcome here."

    Kevin Whitson May 7, 2016 at 1:33pm

According to video footage in one tweet, Hillary Clinton spent less than a minute at a campaign rally in Los Angeles, due in part to an aggressive group accusing the former secretary of state of being responsible for the deaths of thousands of political activists in Honduras.

Accosting the Democratic presidential candidate, voices can be heard shouting, “Hillary Clinton, you’re not welcome here.” The shouts grew louder, coupled with accusations Clinton is personally responsible for the death of Berta Cáceres.

“You’re responsible for the death of Berta Caceres,” the angry voice can be heard saying. “You’re supported the coup in Honduras. You betrayed free right’s activists. You betrayed women’s rights activists in Honduras. You betrayed free rights activists in Honduras.”

For her part, Clinton ignored the angry protesters but was apparently shouted down from the stage and made a quick exit.

The back story involves Clinton’s role in a military coup in 2009 in Honduras which overthrew democratically elected President Manuel Zelaya. Instead of seeking to restore Zelaya to power, the U.S. State Department, under the control of Clinton, responded to the coup by allegedly backing members of the coup.

Before she was murdered in the subsequent post-coup violence, Cáceres, a Honduran indigenous rights and environmental activist accused Clinton of direct responsibility for the violence in her country. That violence later claimed Cáceres’ own life.

In a video interview in 2014, Cáceres said, “The same Hillary Clinton, in her book Hard Choices, practically said what was going to happen in Honduras. This demonstrates the bad legacy of North American influence in our country. The return of Mel Zelaya to the presidency (that is, to his constitutionally elected position) was turned into a secondary concern. There were going to be elections.”

The murdered activist was pushing for Zelaya’s return to power but the U.S. wanted to help form a unity government and hold elections following the coup. As a result of the coup, the murder rate, which was already one of the highest in the world, increased by 50 percent, according to one report.

In her memoir Hard Choices, Clinton writes of the events surrounding the coup and subsequent U.S. intervention. “In the subsequent days [after the coup] I spoke with my counterparts around the hemisphere, including Secretary [Patricia] Espinosa in Mexico,” Clinton writes. “We strategized on a plan to restore order in Honduras and ensure that free and fair elections could be held quickly and legitimately, which would render the question of Zelaya moot.”

According to Latino USA, a Clinton campaign spokesperson has previously responded to such accusations of U.S. meddling in Honduras. Director of Hispanic media Jorge Silva wrote in an email, “That charge is simply nonsense. Hillary Clinton engaged in active diplomacy that resolved a constitutional crisis and paved the way for legitimate democratic elections.”

Shame on Hillary. Shame on her. This regime change crap is nothing but crap.

Before she was murdered in the subsequent post-coup violence, Cáceres, a Honduran indigenous rights and environmental activist accused Clinton of direct responsibility for the violence in her country. That violence later claimed Cáceres’ own life.

That is so sad. Shame on Hillary.
