Watch that new border wall going up where it is needed most

Instead of waiting for a comprehensive bill funding a new wall, President Trump is doing what a businessman does: making the best use of the limited resources at his disposal.

Congress still refuses to fund a complete border wall, but that isn’t stopping the king of construction, Donald J. Trump, from delivering the goods where it is needed most. The El Paso Times has provided an entertaining and interesting video of construction of a new, much bigger border wall being built on the border separating the metropolises of Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas, with a combined metropolitan population of at least 2.7 million souls. In an environment of scarcity, priorities must always be established, and the most densely populated areas should pay the greatest dividends in limiting the prospects of border-jumpers. San Diego and Tijuana, along with El Paso and Juarez are ground zero.
The Hill reposts the El Paso Times video and notes:

“In fiscal year 2017, El Paso Sector apprehended 25,193 illegal aliens, seized 34,189 pounds of marijuana and 140 pounds of cocaine,” the release continued. "Additionally during that fiscal year, there were 54 assaults against El Paso Sector agents.”
The agency said it contracted West Point Contractors of Tucson, Ariz., on June 1 to build the barrier.

As for San Diego, the New York Post reports construction there is already underway:

A 14-mile section of President Trump’s border wall is under construction in San Diego, at a cost of $147 million.
The money comes from the omnibus spending bill that Trump signed in March. The legislation included a $1.6 billion down payment on the “great, great” wall that – Trump promised throughout his presidential campaign – would stretch across the nation’s southern border.
The San Diego wall will reach up to 30 feet high, topped with a sheer vertical “anti-climbing plate” that offers no hand- or footholds for illicit border crossers.
It will replace a long stretch of 8-to-10-foot-high metal fencing that was built in the 1990s out of scrap metal and repurposed steel plates. Rusted and wobbly in places, the old wall has been no match for drug smugglers and human traffickers.

Yeah, I saw an interview about it this weekend, it's a huge source of illegal immigration, this 22 mile area. Hope the big new bollard steel fence helps shut that down.

Put barb wire, spikes or a big drum roller on top and roll it one-way to Mexican side.

Anything to keep them OFF of it!

They get hurt on our side...hand them over to Mexico for treatment!

Lies, lies, and more lies. Trump lies to anyone that will listen on the border fence and then some in media actually print the lies.

By contrast, Republican Rep. Jim Jordan, founder of the House Freedom Caucus, said of the omnibus bill, “The one thing we don’t fund is the one issue we all campaigned on — a border security wall — and that is not in the legislation.”

And here’s House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi’s version of what the bill does: “Democrats won explicit language restricting border construction to the same see-through fencing that was already authorized under current law.”

Those seemingly conflicting statements may lead to some confusion. One of our readers asked, “Has Trump started building the wall between USA & Mexico?”

The short answer is that the omnibus bill funds some new fencing, though far less than Trump had hoped it would. The new barriers are also not the kind of solid, concrete wall Trump once described during the campaign. Nor is it anything like any of the prototypes Trump visited in mid-March.

Trump and others in his administration are calling what is going up “the wall.” The omnibus describes it as “fencing.” Some may say that’s a matter of semantics, and indeed many officials and journalists use the terms interchangeably. But Trump has often insisted there is a difference between a fence and wall, and that he’d be building a wall.

Finally, Trump officials say the omnibus will fund about 100 miles of “new” wall, but most of that is replacing existing border fencing deemed inadequate or dilapidated.

Let’s take a deeper look at what the bill does and does not fund for barriers along the border with Mexico. And then let’s dig deeper into what Trump promised.

What’s in the Omnibus?

On March 23, Trump signed the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill (also known as the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018), though he said there “are a lot of things that I’m unhappy about in this bill.”

Although Trump had asked for $25 billion for wall construction, the bipartisan spending bill provides what Trump called only an “initial down payment” of $1.6 billion in funding. But even that sum comes with significant strings attached.

Here’s what that $1.6 billion is for (see Section 230, starting on page 673):

• $251 million for “secondary fencing” near San Diego.
• $445 million for “primary pedestrian levee fencing” in the Rio Grande Valley.
• $196 million for “primary pedestrian fencing” in the Rio Grande Valley.
• $445 million for replacement of primary pedestrian fencing.
• $38 million for border barrier planning and design.
• $196 million for border security technology.
• ​

The bill further states that the money can only be used to build “operationally effective designs deployed as of the date of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2017, [May 5, 2017] such as currently deployed steel bollard designs, that prioritize agent safety.”

I have given up any hope that we will have a wall, but I have also given up any hope that a wall would help.

If we had a Wall, Border Patrol would see someone on the other side, and rescue them and bring them to the US for processing, using the excuse they were trying to prevent a fall or something, you know just doing the humanitarian thing. If that sounds unreasonable check out the article about Border Patrol going to an Island an rescuing a bunch of invaders the smugglers had left, and bringing them to US soil. Yes, Border Patrol finishing the smugglers job for them.

Since our politicians both D's and R's want to assist the invaders, even if we had a wall, the politicians would find a way around it.
