Cruz's plan for illegal immigrants already here

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has held off sharing details about what he would do with millions of illegal immigrants already in the U.S. but on Wednesday he said he would focus on other immigration-related actions before exploring the answer to that question.

"Once we have demonstrated to the American people that this isn't an empty promise, this isn't an, 'I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today,' but the problem is solved, then at that point I think the American people would be open to having a conversation about what to do about whatever population that will be markedly smaller remains here," Cruz told listeners in the Your Voice Washington Examiner teleforum.

His administration would finish building a double-layer 700-mile fence on the Mexico-U.S. border, which currently stands at 36 miles long under the Obama administration. Cruz said he would enforce existing federal law that requires the implementation of a biometric entry-exit system to track anyone who comes in to the U.S. on a visa.

In addition to tripling Border Patrol agents and adding four times the number of fixed wing and rotary wing aircrafts to monitor the border, Cruz would implement E-Verify programs to ensure illegal immigrants are ineligible for jobs.

Then, Cruz explained, he would deport all criminal illegal aliens. Current federal policies under the Priority Enforcement Program require only the most dangerous criminals to be removed after serving prison time, but the junior senator said all criminals would be sent home.

He would enforce federal laws to override state laws that give illegal immigrant households what he said were an estimated $14,000 annually in welfare benefits.

"All of those tools together will secure the border once and for all," said Cruz, currently ranked second among GOP presidential candidates in the Washington Examiner's presidential power rankings.

I don't think Ted Cruz is going to deport illegal aliens. His plan is really no different than the Gang of Eight Bill which was secure the borders, then amnesty for the ones who are already here. The only difference that I can see is he doesn't talk about a pathway to citizenship. But if you eventually let them stay and make their presence legal, then like any legal immigrant, they already have a pathway to citizenship through existing uniform naturalization laws. His amendment to the Gang of Eight Bill was to remove the immediate pathway to citizenship provision.

And now we know why. Because millions of them had already been here long enough to be eligible for citizenship, he didn't want these illegal aliens to become voters in time for the 2016 elections when he's running for President on the Republican ballot. Once he would be President, then he won't care about that issue.

Cruz would not be a good president - let him do his job in the senate, I don't like him for VP either. They will need to start talking @ the Canadian border too as there are many areas to cross undetected and Canada is taking in an enormous amount of foreigners - plus terrorists know how easy both our north and south borders are to penetrate.

We need to get rid of these illegals pronto - Mr Trump is our only answer.

I agree with you artist. The Canadian Border is a serious concern, and will be even more so in the future with their acceptance of Syrian Refugees.

When politicians speak of ending welfare to illegals, this is a false promise, as most of the welfare they use is given in the name of their U.S. born children. Additionally, pregnant illegal adults are given taxpayer funded prenatal care , no questions asked. Deportation is the only acceptable solution.

Say what you want, but there is no denying that Cruz is our best option behind Trump. For anyone that wants to deny that, I challenge you to provide your second choice, excluding Santorum (polling at 1% or less).

In the worst case scenario (Trump not making it), we must be prepared to support someone. If not Cruz, who would you suggest? As unfortunate as it is, occasionally life forces us to settle.

Trump will make it, because for most Trump supporters it's:

I'm not much of a cheerleader but I am a realist. I'm hopeful Trump will succeed, but if he doesn't it would be to our advantage to have an alternate plan. If Trump doesn't make it and all Trump supporters stay home on election day, they very well may be the reason we end up with Hillary. Just saying ......
