Family of fallen border patrol agent, criticizes Obama, announces support for Trump during RNC

From the border of Arizona and Mexico, Kent Terry and Kelly Terry-Willis, the brother and sister of murdered Border Patrol agent Brian Terry spoke via video at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland July 18.

“Brian believed in a life led in service of others,” Terry-Willis said. “Brian lived for his family, his friends, his community and our country. The best way to honor him is to honor his fellow border patrol officers.”

Kent Terry said the best presidential candidate to support the border patrol is Donald Trump.

“Only one candidate is serious about border security and that’s Donald Trump,” he said. He will give our heroic border patrol agents the resources and support needed to do their jobs. … Rest in peace brother. God bless the border patrol agents, God bless America. God bless Donald Trump.”

Brian Terry, 40, was killed Dec. 14, 2010, during a gunfight in southern Arizona near the U.S.-Mexico border. He was part of an elite tactical unit investigating weapons’ smuggling by Mexican drug cartels.

The operation, called Fast and Furious by federal authorities, allowed guns to be sold to criminals so they could be tracked back across the border.

Prior to joining the Border Patrol Terry, a Flat Rock native, worked for the Lincoln Park and Ecorse police departments. He was also a Marine veteran.

His family places the blame for Brian’s death with President Barack Obama.

Brian’s parents, appeared on a Fox News program in 2012 and called Obama a liar after he asserted executive privilege to keep Attorney General Eric Holder and other Department of Justice officials from a congressional investigation of “Operation Fast and Furious.”

“It sounds like they’re hiding something,” Kent Terry said at the time. “They’re lying big time and passing the buck. That’s how I feel. I just know they’re hiding something big.

“Something happened out there and we’re not supposed to know.”

The family has continued to blame Obama and his administration, not only for the death of their son and brother, but for policies that allowed it to happen in the first place.

“Obama’s failed policies are leaving border patrol agents thinly equipped and not able to do their jobs effectively,” Terry-Willis said. “My brother paid the ultimate price.”

Three men have been convicted of various charges in connection with the death of Brian Terry.

Terry was buried a week after his death at Michigan Memorial Park in Huron Township, and the Border Patrol office in Bisbee, Ariz., was renamed in his memory.
