An email from Numbers USA - no link ...trump has totally caved to those running the WH now.....
Is President Trump backing away from his pledge to put American workers first? Comments from the White House's director of legislative affairs, Marc Short, seem to suggest so.
Short told reporters yesterday that passing a legislative amnesty for DACA recipients remains a top priority for the White House, and they may even be willing to pass on key legislative priorities, including border security, to make the amnesty a reality.
"I don't want us to bind ourselves into a construct that makes reaching a conclusion on DACA impossible."
-- WH Director of Legislative Affairs Marc Short
Since announcing his candidacy, Pres. Trump has bucked the view widely held by national elites that the country needs more immigration and an amnesty for illegal aliens.
He doubled-down on his promise last month when he stood beside Senators Tom Cotton and David Perdue and offered his endorsement of the RAISE Act -- legislation that would end Chain Migration and the Visa Lottery and replace employment-based green cards with a merit-based system.
As a candidate, I campaigned on creating a merit-based immigration system that protects U.S. workers and taxpayers -- and that is why we are here today...
This legislation demonstrates our compassion for struggling American families who deserve an immigration system that puts their needs first and that puts America first.
-- Pres. Trump, August 2, 2017
He referenced the RAISE Act again in his public statement after announcing an end to DACA.
But Short's comments seemingly contradict Pres. Trump's support for the RAISE Act and his "America First" promises. If Short's comments reflect the actual position of the White House, it would be a complete sell out to Pres. Trump's base and the voters who helped elect him.
Here's the statement Roy issued to the press in response to Short's comments:
White House Director of Legislative Affairs Marc Short's comments today raised grave concerns about a seeming willingness to accept a DACA amnesty without much of anything to mitigate the harm that all amnesties bring. There was no sign of insisting on the E-Verify mandate that would be required for Congress to avoid finding itself with millions more young-adult illegal immigrants clamoring for yet another amnesty a few years from now. Nor was there a sign of memory of Pres. Trump's recent insistence that chain migration of extended family needs to end. Unless it does, an amnesty giving lifetime work permits to DACA recipients would balloon from hundreds of thousands to millions for their extended family through endless chains of migration. Short's compassion seems entirely for foreign citizens here illegally with not a nod for struggling American workers.
