Rep. McCaul wants to include bad border bill to help stop surge; Tell Congress to say No

In recent months, tens of thousands of Unaccompanied Alien Children, and other foreign citizens, have illegally entered the United States across the U.S.-Mexico border. The situation has prompted House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to form a working group to craft a response to the crisis.

As a member of the working group, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) is looking to include his bill, H.R.1417 that would actually weaken border security, as part of the solution.

Say NO to the McCaul border bill

Please send a fax to your U.S. Representative and make him/her aware of the concerns with the McCaul border bill, and tell him/her to do all they can to ensure it is not part of the House's response to the ongoing border crisis.

Last year, Rep. McCaul, who also chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, introduced legislation that was approved by the Committee with bipartisan support. The Border Security Results Act of 2013, however, would weaken existing law in several ways:

1) The bill would require DHS to simply submit a plan to secure high-traffic areas and the Southwest border, whereas existing law requires the federal government to gain operational control of the entire land and maritime border.

2) The bill redefines "opera tional control" as a 90% effectiveness rate as defined by DHS. But existing law defines "operational control" as preventing ALL unlawful entries into the United States.

3) The bill allows DHS to scrap the Congressionally-mandated biometric entry/exit system in lieu of an alternate system.
