Who won GOP debate last night: Republican showdown, Donald Trump vs Ted Cruz vs Rubio
Verdict is out about the Republican debate last night and the winner is none other than Sen. Ted Cruz. He not only stood his ground but put Donald Trump on back foot. It is another matter that Trump showed remarkable dexterity in keeping the spotlight on him till the end.
Many had thought that Donald Trump who was trying to make Cruz feel vulnerable on citizenship issue will lord over everyone during the debate including Cruz were proved completely wrong. His debating skills were in full flow and he showed his mettle as a great debator.
There is no denying the fact that Donald Trump who has been questioning the citizenship status of President Obama and creating suspicion about his place of birth was looking like formidable before the debate began. Nonetheless as debate progressed his arguments started looking shallow. He remained belligerent and didn’t show his frustration on his face.

The senator from Texas opened the event by talking about the U.S. sailors recently detained by Iran. “Today,” he said, “many of us picked up our newspapers, and we were horrified to see the sight of 10 American sailors on their knees, with their hands on their heads. … I give you my word, if I am elected president, no service man or service woman will be forced to be on their knees, and any nation that captures our fighting men will feel the full force and fury of the United States of America” said he.
In the meantime analysts are praising Cruz for his impressive show during the primetime debate on Fox Business. Tara Setmayer says, “It’s no secret Sen. Ted Cruz is an excellent debater. We saw the gloves come off early. He eviscerated Donald Trump on the “birther” issue in a well-prepared, methodical way. Cruz rattled Trump in a way we hadn’t seen before. He extracted an admission from Trump that he’s only going after him now because of how close the polls are, and that if he lost, he’d happily “go back to building buildings if this doesn’t work out.” It made him look petty.
While talking about Cruz vs Rubio spat Tara Setmayer says, “The jabs between Cruz and Rubio started in the last debate with Cruz inflicting damage on Rubio. But not Thursday night. It was Rubio who threw down the gauntlet against Cruz in a fierce, 30-second, laser-focused listing of several policy flip-flops by Cruz. Rubio said “that’s not conservative consistency, that’s political calculation…Cruz attempted to rebut by claiming Rubio’s attacks weren’t true, but Rubio shot back, “That’s your record.” It was Rubio’s drop-the-mic moment”.
