Politics: Will Joe Biden try to impeach Obama if he bombs Syria? Let's check the video...

Past speeches seem to suggest Biden thinks Obama may be behaving like some kind of "monarch"

Back in 2007, Democrats were terrified that then President George W. Bush might start lobbing cruise missiles into Iran. At the time, Joltin' Joe Biden was running for President and was the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee. As such, it was vitally important that the Commander in Chief should understand - regardless of Iran's nuclear program - that Congressional permission was required before he started bombing other countries.

Not only is it needed, Biden thinks that dropping bombs without it is an impeachable offense..

"The president has no authority to unilaterally attack Iran, and I want it on the record and I want to make it clear: if he does, as Foreign Relations Committee chairman, I will move to impeach him. - Joe Biden

Biden made the remarks before a New Hampshire gathering November 29th, 2007. He then informed the crowd that he was meeting with constitutional lawyers, and would draw up paperwork that would inform President Bush of both his outrage and intentions. After all, no one would want the President of the United States to overstep his constitutional authority - particularly when military force is involved.

Hmmmmm... Odd that Biden was so quiet when, in 2011, President Obama involved the United States in the Libyan conflict without obtaining any such authorization.

Now that we appear to be locked into a course which will see the U.S. throwing bunker-busters at Syria, it will be interesting to see whether or not Obama goes to Congress before he acts. If he doesn't, will the Vice President try to impeach his boss?
Probably not. Like any good liberal, Joe's indignation is deeply subjective. Besides, he's most likely forgotten all of this stuff anyway.

However, if the adminsitration needs a "war powers refresher course," it need look no further than the Joe Biden of 1998. Here he is, eloquently bemoaning the "Monarchist" approach to warfare ...which, according to Biden, includes military action without Congressional approval. As Biden puts it, the President has no unilateral authority "to move from a state of peace to a state of war."

But hey, maybe Joe is wrong here. It obviously wouldn't be the first time. Perhaps all a President needs to do is wave his hand let the missiles start flying. That's clearly the position of the Obama administration.

In the end, what really matters is what the President thinks. He's the man in charge. Obviously, Obama doesn't think a President needs the authorization of, say, Congress or the American people, right?
"George Bush and Dick Chen

http://www.caintv.com/in-2007-biden-threatened-to-imey must hear - loud and clear - from the American people and Congress. You do not have our support, and you do not have our authorization to launch another war." - Barack Obama 2007

Huh. Oh well. We're sure Obama will deal with Syria just as soon as he figures out whether he'll be allowed to do so without being impeached by his own Vice President.
