16 GIFs of a Drunk DA at the Heart of Indictment Charges Show Why Rick Perry Wanted Her to Resign

Yesterday, Rick Perry was indicted on charges of abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant – felonies that could potentially result in a life sentence – after following through on his promise to veto state prosecutors investigating public corruption.
The left-leaning advocacy group, Texans for Public Justice, has largely pushed the issue, which stems from Perry threatening to cut $7.5 million over two years from the public integrity unit in order to pressure Rosemary Lehmberg, the Travis County District Attorney whose office oversaw that unit, to resign after she was convicted of driving under the influence.

While the courts will have to rule on the legitimacy of the charges, it’s not hard to see why Governor Perry may not want Rosemary leading an office.

The woman tasked with prosecuting criminals on behalf of the government attempted a piss-poor Hokey Pokey:

Her walking of the line was about like her previous dance.

Rick Perry clearly didn’t trust her abilities.

By the looks of things, she didn’t either.

Even though Rosemary was pressured to resign, she refused to quit, just like she did on this walk.

It makes sense that Texans for Public Justice, a left-leaning advocacy group, would go after a Republican Governor, just like Rosemary kept going after that line-walk.

Certainly they can see the irony in the situation, no? I mean, enforcer of laws that runs the public integrity unit breaks laws and denies it…

    “YOLO.”

Again, Rosemary, whose office runs the public integrity unit, said she wasn’t drinking.

You’d think the DA wouldn’t need a demonstration of the exercises, right?

    She barely averted demonstration-disaster.

Rosemary did clearly say in the video she has a bad hip.

And that bum hip was no match for the curb.

Ultimately, she was found to have broken the law.

And that’s why Rick Perry thought she couldn’t represent the government.

But regardless of any intentions, Rick Perry’s actions that he believes are protected by his Constitutional authority will have to stand up in court.

Perry Indictment the Latest Effort to Turn Texas Blue

Governor's attorneys argue veto power used in accordance with state Constitution

A Texas grand jury is moving forward with charges against longstanding Texas Governor Rick Perry, who is accused of abusing his veto power to strong-arm a political opponent into resigning.

Perry sought the resignation of Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, who was criticized heavily following her April 2013 DWI arrest. Lehmberg was filmed by police behaving belligerently, issuing threats to officers and lashing out in fits of rage. Her blood alcohol level was three times the allowable state limit.

Watch how she acted in jail:

Despite her arrest and subsequent humiliation, though, Lehmberg did not resign.
Perry then promised to veto funding for Texas’ Public Integrity Unit, a department specializing in investigating elected officials headed up by Lehmberg. When Lehmberg still didn’t resign, Perry followed through.
“Despite the otherwise good work the Public Integrity Unit’s employees, I cannot in good conscience support continued state funding for an office with statewide jurisdiction at a time when the person charged with ultimate responsibility of that unit has lost the public’s confidence,” Perry said at the time regarding the veto.“This unit is in no other way held accountable to state taxpayers, except through the state budgetary process. I therefore object to and disapprove of this appropriation.”
Dems vowed revenge, and now the governor faces indictments on two felony charges: abuse of official capacity, which carries a penalty of five to 99 years, and coercion of public servant, punishable by two to 10 years imprisonment, according to the Associated Press.
Perry’s atttorneys were quick to issue a statement saying the governor used his veto power in accordance with the Texas Constitution.
“The veto in question was made in accordance with the veto authority afforded to every governor under the Texas Constitution,” Perry’s general counsel Mary Anne Wiley said Friday evening. “We will continue to aggressively defend the governor’s lawful and constitutional action, and believe we will ultimately prevail.”
Another of Perry’s attorneys, David L. Botsford, labeled the charges an “effort to weaken the constitutional authority granted to the office of Texas governor…”
    Botsford’s statement via Business Insider:
“I am outraged and appalled that the Grand Jury has taken this action, given the governor’s constitutional right and duty to veto funding as he deems appropriate. This clearly represents political abuse of the court system and there is no legal basis in this decision. The facts of this case conclude that the governor’s veto was lawful, appropriate and well within the authority of the office of the governor. Today’s action, which violates the separation of powers outlined in the Texas Constitution, is nothing more than an effort to weaken the constitutional authority granted to the office of Texas governor, and sets a dangerous precedent by allowing a grand jury to punish the exercise of a lawful and constitutional authority afforded to the Texas governor.”
Though the case has yet to play out, several Democrats wasted no time in demonizing Perry, and issued calls demanding his resignation.
Democrat Congressman Joaquin Castro, twin brother of San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro – who was recently tapped by President Obama to head up the Department of Housing and Urban Development – immediately called for Perry’s resignation.

For the sake of Texas, Governor Perry should resign following his indictment on two criminal felony counts involving abuse of office.

“There is a pattern of corruption on the Republican side,” the executive director of the Texas Democratic Party, Will Hailer also said. “I think it’s really important for voters across the state and for Texans to know what’s going on around in their government.”
Texas Democratic Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa also asked Perry to step down. “Texans deserve to have leaders that stand up for what is right and work to help families across Texas,” Hinojosa said following news of the indictment.
But others on the political left have also expressed concerns that the indictment is an uphill battle and does not bode well for Democrats.
Obama mentor David Axelrod tweeted his apprehension:

    David Axelrod @davidaxelrod Follow
Unless he was demonstrably trying to scrap the ethics unit for other than his stated reason, Perry indictment seems pretty sketchy.

It seems quite perverse to indict a governor for exercising his clearly delineated constitutional authority.
    9:30 AM - 16 Aug 2014

A Politico writer also felt the governor was just doing his job as prescribed by the Texas Constitution.
Even the White House mouthpiece Think Progress had to admit Perry’s lawyers have solid standing.
The timing of the indictment coincides with Perry’s deployment of the Texas State National Guard to the southern border, a move widely frowned upon by many pro-amnesty democrats.
The indictment is similar to one lodged against former House Rep. Tom Delay, a Texas Republican who faced money laundering charges he was later acquitted of.
“This is the same playbook the Democrats ran against Delay, no doubt about it. On the heels of the indictment, Texas Democrats are already calling for Perry to resign. These are the same people who have looked the other way while the DA, Rosemary Lehmberg, has remained in office even after her drunk driving escapades,” writes Bryan Preston for PJMedia.
“The Democrats will get a mugshot of Perry before long. They will use that to destroy his reputation and taint all Republicans.”
“It’s a hail Mary pass for the Wendy Davis campaign, of course. These people cannot win in this state on issues. So they are politicizing the legal system in on of their few strongholds.”
In short, Texas Governor Rick Perry is being charged with using his veto power, a power granted him by the Texas Constitution.
Given democrats’ elated reactions, it’s highly likely a smear campaign is being waged as part of the Obama administration’s broader agenda to cultivate a future Democratic voting base, a shift which requires turning traditional Republican states such as Texas blue.

[Watch] Judge Jeanine – Indictment of Texas Gov Rick Perry is Pure, Unadulterated Hogwash

Posted on 16 August, 2014 by Rick Wells

Judge Jeanine reminds us that she believes in the rule of law but she is not going to sugar-coat this one. She says, “The indictment of Texas Governor Rick Perry for abuse of his veto power and coercion of a public servant is pure, unadulterated hogwash.” She says it makes DA’s like her cringe in embarrassment.
Judge Pirro details her thirty-year history of involvement with grand juries and says, “Nothing about this indictment makes sense. A sitting governor facing 109 years in prison because he threatened to veto funding to a drunk district attorney’s public integrity unit.”
She adds, “No one disputes that the law give the governor the power to veto funding, period. End of the story.”
The Judge goes on to describe the back story and background of the District Attorney who is getting crossways with Governor Perry. It is much less than complimentary.

Liberal billionaire George Soros gave $500,000 to Texans for Public Justice, one of the groups behind Rick Perry’s indictment charges.

    Surprised? not me.

Wow: Guess WHO is funding the group behind the indictment of Rick Perry…

By David Rufful on August 18, 2014 in Front Page, Politics

Liberal billionaire George Soros gave $500,000 to Texans for Public Justice, one of the groups behind Rick Perry’s indictment charges.
Rick Perry was indicted by a Texas grand jury for vetoing funding for the state’s public integrity unit, unless the lead prosecutor resigned following her drunk driving arrest. Since the news of Perry’s indictment charge broke on Aug. 15, none of the network morning or evening news broadcasts have mentioned the Soros connection, or mentioned Texans for Public Justice at all.
Naturally, this piece of information is going completely unreported by the mainstream media. When it comes to funding, liberals in the media only care if the Koch brothers are involved. Meanwhile, even Soros’ biggest media ally MSNBC is calling the case against the Governor “weak” and “fishy.”
Even some liberals have defended Rick Perry and dismissed the indictment charges as politically motivated. Obama senior aide David Axelrod defended Perry on Twitter, tweeting that “[u]nless he was demonstrably trying to scrap the ethics unit for other than his stated reason, Perry’s indictment seems pretty sketchy,” and MSNBC called the case against the Texas governor “weak” and “fishy.” ABC, CBS and NBC have completely ignored these liberal criticisms of the indictment.
In what appeared to have been a slip of the tongue, Texans for Public Justice Director Craig McDonald told CNN “the governor again, in his defense yesterday, said this is merely a partisan, political witch hunt. Nothing could be closer to the truth.
Nothing could be closer to the truth, indeed.

Gov. Rick Perry Stripped of Concealed Carry Permit and Ability to Buy Guns

in Gun Rights, News, Opinion, Politics / by Amanda Shea / on August 27, 2014 at 6:34 pm /

Staunch Second Amendment supporter and advocate for tight border control, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, has been stripped of his concealed carry permit and prohibited from purchasing firearms and ammunition, following his felony indictment for alleged abuse of power
According to Texas state law 18 USC 922(n), “It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person (1) is under indictment for, or has been convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.”
Until Perry’s case is closed, the state he governs will prevent him from practicing his Second Amendment right as an American, but he will be allowed to “reapply two years after the date of revocation” if his concealed carry license has been revoked, according to a Reuters report.

Perry reportedly made it a regular practice to carry a weapon all or most of the time, even during times of exercise. He even claimed to have shot a coyote with a concealed firearm while jogging in 2010.
The governor is not, however, required to turn over his firearms and can carry any of his handguns while at his home, according to Texas state law.
Perry faces up to 109 years in jail if convicted of the first-degree felony charge slapped on him for supposed abuse of official capacity along with a third-degree felony charge of correction of a public official. The governor and his allies have dismissed the charges for lacking merit. Perry has entered a not guilty plea to both charges.
“I’m going to fight this injustice with every fiber of my being. And we will prevail,” Perry said earlier this month before being booked in Austin.
Perry was indicted after he followed through on a threat to veto funding for state public corruption prosecutors after Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg was arrested and convicted for drunken driving.
