Texas group to offer college scholarships to white men

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. (Reuters) - Members of a new Texas association are starting a college scholarship program for a group of students they say do not have as many scholarship options as others -- white men.

Colby Bohannan, a student at Texas State University in San Marcos, and some friends have formed the non-profit Former Majority Association for Equality, which will provide the scholarships. The idea was that there are many scholarships geared toward helping minorities and women attend college, and there are also scholarships for people from certain religions or from certain families. But Bohannan thought his demographic group was missing.

"We know that we're going to be receiving some vicious attacks, from people claiming that we are racists, or promoting some bigotry-filled agenda," Bohannan said on Thursday.

Starting this summer, the association plans to provide as many as five $500 scholarships to deserving white men who have at least a 3.0 grade point average, Bohannan said.

"Our aim is actually just to help students," he said. "We are not trying to jump on any political agenda or bandwagon."

Non-Hispanic whites are, in fact, a minority in the state of Texas. Census numbers released earlier this month show that they make up about 42 percent of the state's population, down from more than half just ten years ago.

To qualify for the group's scholarship, applicants have to be able to prove that they are at least 25 percent Caucasian," Bohannan said.

"We're not looking for blond-haired, blue-eyed, stereotypical white males," he said. "My feeling is that if you can say you're 25 percent Caucasian, you're Caucasian enough for us."

I want to see which hypocritical Pro-illegal groups starts throwing the race card first and how this turns out.
This just may create a domino affect if it turns out right.

I'm curious also. I'd personally like it to be seen nationwide as non white groups attacking it as racist and hope white people finally stand up and say "enough is enough with hating on whites".

My entire life I've been called names and a racist just because I'm white by people I don't even know just because I'm white. Heaven forbid we stand up for ourselves also. Whats pissed me off the most is always being called a slaver because "my ancestors had black slaves"... just because I'm white. But in reality while african blacks sold other africans from other tribes as slaves to some white men thus creating a couple hundred years of black slavery. My ancestory is Scottish, we were enslaved by other white men for over 1,000 years... but I hold no grudge vs the English.

I doubt any illegals with pitch in to contribute? Oh, silly me! Like THAT would ever happen! They only WANT, WANT, WANT and TAKE, TAKE, TAKE! How selfish of us to support our legal citizens and not them! Think I'll go crawl back in my hole, and pull the dirt over myself in shame!

In Miami they should have them for women too as well as affirmative action hiring for white non hispanics. Try getting a job with the City if you are white non hispanic. You can't.

Since it only requires being 1/4th caucasian you will get every other group applying. Just wait and see how many all of a sudden become part caucasian. So, they will get the ethnic scholarships along with this one.

One requirement should be that they can say the "Pledge of Allegiance" with out hesitation, where it came from and be able to explain the meaning(s) of it.

I know my opinion won't be very popular, but I'm not so sure I agree with this. Two wrongs don't make a right. Those who receive scholarships should do so based on a combination of merit and talent, not gender or skin color.

By the way, I'm a white guy.
