    The Florida Senate Judiciary Committee has voted down a bill that would offer in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens who graduate from a Florida high school.

    This is the second year in a row that DREAM Act-style legislation has failed to reach the State Senate floor. The bill was voted down 4-to-3.

    The bill (SB106) would have allowed illegal aliens who attend a Florida high school for at least three years and hold either a Florida high school diploma or equivalent to receive the discounted in-state tuition rate if they are enrolled in a public college or university. Had it passed, the law would have been effective for the fall semester.

    Voting against it were Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine, David Simmons, R-Orlando, Garrett Richter, R-Naples, Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando. Voting for the measure were Sen. Oscar Braynon, D-Miami, Arthenia Joyner, D-Tampa, and Anitere Flores, R-Miami.
    A related bill (SB 101 met a similar fate in the Senate Higher Education Committee in early February.
