    Border Patrol agents assigned to the Laredo West Station stopped a human smuggling attempt and rescued 18 illegal immigrants Thursday.

    Agents working at the checkpoint on U.S. 83, located about 35 miles north of Laredo, inspected a tractor-trailer at the checkpoint.

    During the inspection, agents looked in the sleeper cab and found 14 illegal immigrants.

    They also checked the trailer, where they located four more undocumented immigrants.

    The driver, the immigrants and the truck were turned over to Immigration and Customs Expert agents.
