Arkansas GOP reps sign on to citizenship-limit bill

Three Republican members of the U.S. House say they've signed on as co-sponsors of a bill to limit who could claim U.S. citizenship by being born in this country.

Now, anyone born in the U.S. is automatically a citizen. But Rep. Steve King of Iowa is offering a bill to limit the citizenship birthright to people with at least one parent who is a citizen, a legal permanent resident or an alien who served in the armed services.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette says Arkansas Reps. Rick Crawford, Tim Griffin and Steve Womack say they've joined 56 others as co-sponsors.

They said conferring citizenship on a baby born to parents who are illegally in this country gives citizens of other countries incentive to break the law and enter this country illegally.
