PHOENIX -- Sheriff Joe Arpaio said it is about time a bill like SB 1070 was passed and now he is gearing up for yet another crime suppression sweep.

Arpaio spoke out about the immigration enforcement bill for the first time Saturday saying that it really doesn’t change what his deputies do but does offer them a little more authority.

The Maricopa County Sheriff said he will conduct his 15th crime suppression sweep in the county next week in Phoenix. Over the past few years he says he has arrested some 38,000 illegal immigrants.
