    Arrests, sezures, drug busts, etc. for 9/4/12

    U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter, Blaine Sector August 16 – August 29

    (Monday, September 03, 2012)
    Blaine, Wash. – The information listed below is from arrests and seizures related to the U.S. Border Patrol in the Blaine Sector area of operations. For security reasons, this may not be a complete list of enforcement actions.


    08/18/2012 – Blaine Border Patrol agents responded to a request for assistance from the Blaine Police Department regarding a subject they had detained in Blaine, Washington. The individual, a citizen of Mexico, admitted to overstaying a visitor visa and being present in the United States illegally. The suspect was placed under arrest and processed for removal.



    08/18/2012 – Sumas Border Patrol agents responded to a request for assistance from the Everson Police Department regarding a subject they had detained near Sumas, Washington. The individual, a citizen of Mexico, admitted being present in the United States illegally. The suspect was placed under arrest and processed for removal.



    08/19/2012 – While patrolling the border, Blaine Border Patrol agents witnessed an individual cross the United States/Canada border in Blaine, Washington. The subject, a citizen of Malaysia, admitted being present in the United States illegally. The suspect was placed under arrest and processed for removal.



    08/23/2012 – Operators of a remote video surveillance system observed six subjects illegally cross the United States/Canada border east of Sumas, Washington. Sumas Border Patrol agents in the area responded and apprehended the subjects. The suspects, citizens of India and present in the United States illegally were placed under arrest and processed for removal.

CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.

    San Juan CBP Finds 3 Cocaine-Filled Duffel Bags Inside Container

    San Juan, Puerto Rico - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized last night three duffel bags filled with 70 cocaine bricks found inside a container arriving to the Port of San Juan from the Dominican Republic.  The bags were found during inbound scanning inspection of containers on board M/V BUXFAVOURITE arriving from the Dominican Republic. (more)

    Drug Dealer Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison

    Tucson, Ariz. - A 25-year-old man from Tabasco, Mexico, apprehended by Ajo Station U.S. Border Patrol agents in January 2012, was recently sentenced to 37 months of confinement. The U.S. Attorney's Office prosecuted Rosendo Coctino-Utria after his apprehension for attempting to illegally re-enter the United States as an aggravated felon following a previous deportation.     Baltimore CBP Intercepts First in Port Nesting Whitefly

    Baltimore - A U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) entomologist confirmed Wednesday that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agriculture specialists at Baltimore Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport discovered a new pest in the Baltimo. (more)

    Departments of Justice and Education Reach Settlement with Arizona Department of Education to Ensure That ELL Students Are Properly Identified and Not Prematurely Exited(12-1070)

    The Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, and the Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, today entered into a settlement agreement with the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) that requires ADE and Arizona public schools to offer targeted reading and writing intervention services to tens of thousands of English Language Learner (ELL) students who were prematurely exited or incorrectly identified as Initially Fluent English Proficient (IFEP) over the past five school years. The agreement also requires ADE to develop proficiency criteria that accurately identify and exit ELL students.
