Border Patrol arrested 3 Chinese citizens who illegally crossed the border into U.S.

    Police Reports: November 4 – 10, 2014

    Police Reports
    November 12, 2014
November 4, 9 p.m.: Border Patrol agents arrested three Chinese citizens who illegally crossed the border into the U.S. in Blaine. One of the woman and a small child were returned to Canada by federal authorities. The other woman was wanted on a felony warrant issue assist. Officers confirmed the warrant and booked the woman into jail for extradition to Nevada.

    November 4, 9:30 p.m.:
Police learned of a large party at a home in Blaine where there had been copious under-aged drinking by several teenagers. At least one attendee had become dangerously intoxicated and may have been targeted by others to be sexually assaulted. Officers are investigating the assault and are also forwarded charges on several misdemeanor offenses involving the alcohol possession by minors and furnishing of alcohol to minors.

November 5, 3:06 p.m.: Police were dispatched to a grocery store for a shoplift complaint, and contacted a 17-year-old being detained by store employees. The $5 meal he had tried to steal had been recovered. The teenager was processed and released to his mother. A report was forwarded to the juvenile prosecutor’s office for shoplifting charges.
November 5, 3:15 p.m.: An octogenarian resident was out for an afternoon walk when he slipped and fell in an alley off of G Street. He suffered facial injuries in the fall, and a passerby who witnessed the accident called 911 for medical assistance. Police officers arrived to assist and monitored the patient until fire department aid personnel relieved them.
November 6, 9:15 a.m.: A Good Samaritan called police dispatch to report an abandoned bicycle near a residence on 4th Street. An officer located the red mountain bike and put it in safekeeping after checking the local database for lost/stolen bicycles. Hopefully the owner will check in to report it lost.
November 6, 11:40 a.m.: A teenager contacted Blaine police for help when her boyfriend assaulted her and threaten to kill her. An officer met with the young woman, conducted an initial investigation and made sure the victim was no longer in harm’s way. The primary crimes occurred in the Whatcom County Sheriff’s jurisdiction, and the offense report was forwarded to that agency for completion.
November 6, 11:48 a.m.: A couple contacted Blaine police to report the possible theft of several thousand dollars in property from their home. The case is under investigation.
November 6, 11:53 a.m.: A person reported having problems with her downstairs neighbor banging on the ceiling and walls in complaint because she was vacuuming. Officers spoke to all parties and determined no crimes had occurred, yet. Both parties were advised to contact the landlord to determine if a reasonable course of action can be found. They will also each contact police if criminal activity, such as a pattern of harassment, occurs.
November 6, 6 p.m.: A windstorm brought down a large tree on top of two cars parked in a business lot along Semiahmoo Parkway. Officers responded to the scene, clearing other trees off the road as they went. One of the victim vehicles sustained heavy damage and the other fared better and will likely need only cosmetic repair. Both cars and the tree were on private property so the property owner’s representative was contacted and officers completed a report to assist everyone with their insurance claims.
November 7, 7:45 a.m.: Police were dispatched to a residential neighborhood when neighbors reported a loose dog roaming the area. An officer located the pit bull mix and followed it back to its home. He contacted the owner, who still had not licensed the animal since the last time it had gotten loose. This time a citation is being issued and animal control will monitor for compliance.
November 7, 3:41 p.m.: An officer contacted a motorist with a flat tire on Boblett Street. He tried to change the tire for the driver but discovered the car’s spare tire was also flat. At the owner’s request, a local business was called to provide assistance.
November 7, 10:23 p.m.: An officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation, but the violator attempted to flee by speeding up and passing several cars on the right. The vehicle eventually pulled into a parking lot with only one exit and was forced to stop. The teenaged driver was taken into custody without incident. When the investigation was complete the young man was released with several citations and officers contacted the teen’s father to advise him what had occurred.
November 8, 1:48 p.m.: Police responded when a man reported a bomb threat at a city park. Officers determined the threat to be false and most likely related to the mental state of the caller. The reporting party has a lengthy criminal history and is reported to be an officer safety concern. Area agencies were advised of the incident, as were all patrol personnel.
November 9, 12:02 p.m.: A property owner reported the theft of items from their home. The loss is being compensated but the homeowner wanted police to be aware of the problem in case others suffered a similar loss. An officer documented the matter and follow-up is being done to ascertain if there are other victims.
November 9, 5:36 p.m.: Police responded to a residence on a report of a theft which likely had occurred two weeks earlier while the victim was away from home. The case is under investigation.
November 9, 10:11 p.m.: 911 operators received a hang-up call from a service station downtown. The male caller quickly said he was going to jump in front of a train then hung up the phone. Police and Border Patrol agents checked the area thoroughly for the despondent person but were unable to locate him.
November 10, 8:30 a.m.: A BNSF freight train engineer called police to report that a man had stood on the train tracks as the train approached him northbound near the 600 block of Peace Portal Drive. The man only moved off of the tracks when the train was within 10 feet of running over him. The man walked away southbound on Peace Portal Drive. The train was able to stop about 500 feet farther down the line. Police and U.S. Border Patrol field agents searched the area for the man but he was gone. A suspect has been identified and investigation continues.
November 10, 11:15 a.m.: An officer was contacted by a man who wanted to file an assault charge on his neighbor after they had an argument two days before. A report was completed and forwarded to the city prosecutor for review of charges.
November 10, 5:17 p.m.: Shortly after 5 p.m., neighbors and passersby phoned 911 to report a house fire on D Street. Blaine police responded and a Border Patrol agent nearby confirmed seeing flames in the front of the home as the first officer arrived in the area within a minute of the call. Neighbors near the back of the house saw a gasoline container near the back door, and told the officer they did not know if anyone was in the house. Through the broken pane of a window, the officer spotted an unconscious person laying inside and forced open the rear door. With the help of a Border Patrol agent the officer pulled the man outside to safety before fire engulfed the room. The man was the owner of the house, and upon regaining consciousness he complained about having been rescued from the blaze as he had intended to die. He became combative and had to be restrained by the officers. Fire units arrived on scene to extinguish the fire, and their aid personnel evaluated the man before he was transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and observation. Police remained on scene overnight. Initial evidence indicates the blaze was deliberately set and an arson investigation is underway. U.S. Border Patrol and Blaine City Light assisted in the response. The Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office and North Whatcom Fire and Rescue are assisting Blaine police in their investigation.
