Border Shooting Sparks International Incident
Mexican Officials Call For Complete Investigation
POSTED: 8:45 pm PDT August 30, 2006
UPDATED: 8:56 pm PDT August 30, 2006
SAN DIEGO -- The alleged shooting death of a Mexican citizen by a Border Patrol agent is becoming an international incident.
The Mexican Consulate in San Diego has called for a complete investigation of the shooting, which happened late Saturday near Yuma, Ariz., and was sparked by a rock-throwing incident.
During a patrol chase on the U.S. side of the border near Yuma, a Mexican driver fled and ended up in a pond near the Colorado River. When he began to flail, border agents tried to rescue him and that's when officials say someone started throwing rocks from the Mexican side of the border, hitting one agent in the head.
A shot was then fired, hitting the rock-wielding suspect.
Now Mexican Consul General Luis Cabrera is demanding to know why the incident happened but Chief Ronald Colburn, who heads the Yuma Sector Border Patrol, said it was just one of five separate assaults on agents that night alone.
"I consider all of them sons and daughters, nephews and nieces so it truly worries me about them. They're the ones who are in fact placing themselves in harm's way," Colburn said.
But Cabrera said an investigation is needed to see if rock throwing justifies killing someone.
"It's important to have a full investigation now about how the incident occurred. But, in any case, I think it's difficult to justify the killing of someone who was throwing rocks. Maybe. Whatever. But the answer was maybe too much, no? To kill someone who was throwing rocks, that's the response. Are there no other means?" I guess Cabrera didn't read that part of the Bible, where people are stoned to death? The judgment was carried out by throwing rocks too.
It's important to have a full investigation now about how the incident occurred.

Yes, a waste of time. And rocks can kill people. End of story. Let the agents do their jobs and quit questioning them. Sick of this.

Re: Border Shooting Sparks International Incident
Let me start throwing rocks at Cabrera's head and I'd bet he'll change his tune.

Geez, this gets real old folks....
Now Mexican Consul General Luis Cabrera is demanding to know why the incident happened...
[with relevant sarcasm...]:
Why it happened, Mr. Cabrera, is someone from your country had the brilliant idea of 'sneaking into' the US and was stopped. He then assaulted a highly-trained and reasonably well-armed Federal law enforcement officer by throwing large rocks at him. The officer defened himelf. The person was shot. He is dead. End of story.

Clue to Mr. Cabrera and other blissninnies of his ilk. Don't throw rocks at armed people and you're not likely to get shot by those armed people.Knowledge is Power Power corrupts Study hard Be Evil

I'm a former EMS worker and have been through several advanced trauma classes so I can tell you that a rock is a very dangerous object, being struck in the head can kill a person, blind them or cause permenant brain damage.
Perhaps this Mr. Cabrera thinks that the Border Patrol should just throw rocks back at these people, we could take away their guns and just load up the back of their jeeps with rocks, instead of small arms training they could hire a baseball pitcher to train them how to throw properly.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

This is another reason why we need to realize that war has been declared on us by Mexico and do something about it. Something like put OUR troops on OUR borders and let them do something for their own country for a change.
It is the fault of the US government for closing their eyes to this situation all these years. It is the fault of the state governments for not listening to the few locals who asked why it was happening. And it is the fault of the people on the border who sat back and said "we can't do anything about it" until they were outnumbered.
If our government refuses to back our law enforcement in these incidents then what? How many times are we going to prosecute our Border Patrol and other law enforcement agents for doing their jobs before people wake up?Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
