Burnaby Mounties nab illegal aliens

Oct 26 2005
Acting on a tip, Burnaby RCMP's Problem Oriented Policing (POP) team detained five men Monday night for being in Canada illegally
The five men, ranging in age from 20 to 25, are from Mexico and were taken into custody at 10 p.m. Monday. They are being detained by the Canadian Border Services Agency for violations of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

On Sunday, Burnaby Mounties were conducting a routine check on a man they suspected of using illegal drugs when their suspicions were raised. The 20-year-old man said he was a Mexican national in Canada on an alleged visitors visa. He claimed he did not work but had a large amount of cash on him, which he explained by claiming his parents sent him money. Police believe the men were involved in organized crime, trafficking drugs in Burnaby

The man gave a false address but Mounties were still able to track him down, along with four other men also found to be in the country illegally. Police found the men in two different homes in the 6400-block of Silver Avenue in Burnaby, where they also seized drug paraphernalia. A sixth man faces a charge of possession of marijuana
