Jerry Brown: Yes to Immigration Reform, No to Driver's Licenses
La Opinion, Posted: Mar 04, 2010
LOS ANGELES -- In an interview with Spanish-language daily La Opinión, California Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Jerry Brown said he would not support driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants, but would support immigration reform.
"As state attorney general and chief upholder of the law, I can't support licenses, but I would do everything in my power to promote immigration reform," he said.
Brown called undocumented immigrants "an important part of our social and economic life." He said he would work closely with the Mexican president on issues such as energy, drugs and arms trafficking, and the fate of tens of thousands of Mexican citizens who are currently incarcerated in California.
