Residents fearful of vicious gangsters
By SARAH KENNEDY, CALGARY SUN

News a notorious Hispanic gang has moved into Calgary has struck fear in residents familiar with their wrath.

Rev. Salvador Ahumada, of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, saw firsthand in his native Mexico the terror inflicted by members of the Mara Salvatrucha or MS-13.

"I thought we were free of them," said Ahumada.

"I knew of people who were hated by the MS-13."

"One of them was killed and two ended up in hospital. They have no heart, they do what they are told to do. They are very violent and bloody."

Calgary police have said there is intelligence showing there are members in the city, but so far there has been no crimes or violence tied to them.

Frank Flores of the Los Angeles Police Department gang unit said the MS-13 tend to stay below the radar until they are well-entrenched.

They are known to infiltrate the Hispanic community first, said Flores.
