    Editorial: Farmers' Branch's shame

    Friday, September 01, 2006

A city councilman in the Dallas suburb of Farmers Branch says what he’s proposed isn’t a slam at brown-skinned people.

He says it’s about people who break the law.

    Let’s try his logic.

Would Councilman Tim O’Hare propose that people who evade their taxes not be able to rent property in his community? How about those who refuse to pay child support? Obviously not. We want all Americans to abide by the law, but . . .

O’Hare’s proposal is that landlords in Farmers Branch be prohibited from renting property to illegal aliens. Further, he proposes that children of illegal immigrants be prohibited from participating in some city youth programs. He also wants Farmers Branch to adopt English as the official city language.

O’Hare has said his principal reason is that residents who are in the country illegally bring down property values because they don’t keep up property as well as American citizens.

O’Hare couldn’t possibly be saying they bring down property values because of the color of their skin or the language they use. We hope not. That would only be the most ridiculous generalization imaginable.

The Farmers Branch councilman has received support from some people who are frantic to have the government “do something” about illegal immigration.

One of the players who is most involved in the issue nationally, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, has denounced the Farmers Branch proposals. She says illegal immigration is a federal concern, and Washington must address it.

It’s also questionable whether such ordinances would even be legal. Could Farmers Branch say that an illegal alien couldn’t purchase groceries in its stores or patronize its theaters?

That’s not to discount any city’s concern about conditions that might drag neighborhoods down. But laws that target classes of people aren’t the way to confront neighborhood decline.

The way to do it is through city code and code enforcement.

If Councilman O’Hare had, deep in the recesses of his brain, the impression that brown-skinned people aren’t good for a neighborhood, a group called Compre Farmers Branch is seeking to put his impressions to the test.

Composed of Hispanic civil rights groups and lending institutions, it is hoping Hispanics will purchase all 157 homes now on the market in Farmers Branch.

It would be interesting, if that happened, to see if Farmers Banch property values went up or tanked. We’ll bet on the former.

The truth is that any American that doesn't pay their property taxes, won't have that property for very long and any American that doesn't pay their child support, will soon find their hiney in the pokey.

That's the problem with illegal aliens. While Americans are prosecuted to the hilt for their crimes, illegal aliens are given a free pass and even defended over the rights of American citizens. Well, we have had enough and we're not going to take it anymore! We're going to get rid of politicians who don't or won't execute their oath of office and replace them with Americans whose oath means something.

Because, you IDIOT, there isn't a law for such violations, but there is a LAW prohibiting renting to illegals. GET IT! Can these people even reason at all???
