Three people, identified by federal prosecutors as the owners and operators of the Inverarry Resort Hotel Condominium in Lauderhill, have been charged with conspiring to harbor undocumented immigrants after one of their employees suffered a work-related injury, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday.

Maria Esther Monzon Roque, 55, Maria Cristina Ramirez De La Piscina Pena, 56, and Julian Roman Ramirez De La Piscina Pena, 57, were also charged with harboring the undocumented immigrant who suffered the injury.

According to federal prosecutors, the undocumented immigrant, who was not named, returned to work after being hospitalized in November 2007. Her employers threatened to turn her over to immigration officials if she asked them to pay her medical expenses.

The case is pending before U.S. District Judge James Cohn in Fort Lauderdale.
