Phoday Dumbuya (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement )
A man who was being deported from the United States escaped a pair of federal agents at Denver International Airport Tuesday and was able to slip away.
Phoday Dumbuya, 25, escaped from two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at about 8:30 a.m., according to a media release from the immigration agency.
Dumbuya was walking into the airport with the two agents when he ran off, said Carl Rusnok, an ICE spokesman. He was not in handcuffs when he dashed.
"It's up to the escorting officers discretion" whether a deportee should be handcuffed, Rusnok said.
Several officers from various police departments searched for the escapee, but he was not found.
In August of 2008, Dumbuya was convicted of assault in Denver County District Court. He was sentenced to two years of probation.
Rusnok could not say what triggered Dumbuya's deportation to Gambia.
Anyone with information on Dumbuya's whereabouts is asked to call ICE at 720 873-2828.

VIDEO STORY AT LINK.
DENVER- One week after a man who escaped two U.S. Immigration and Custody Enforcement Agents (ICE) was re-captured and found in Nebraska, Denver International Airport released surveillance video of the man's escape only to 9NEWS.The video shows Phoday Dumbuya, 25, running through sliding doors at the parking garage and into an elevator filled with people. Dumbuya entered the elevator just moments before a woman and a young child walked in.
On January 23, Dumbuya was being deported back to Gambia by two ICE agents. Immigration officials say Dumbuya was not wearing handcuffs and somehow escaped the agents.
An ICE spokesman says the officers did not violate any policies by not having Dumbuya in handcuffs and says the agency will take appropriate actions to prevent future escapes.
Dumbuya is in the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service and is being charged with failure to depart. He will go through the judicial process before being deported back to Gambia.
