TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) A Guatemala man arrested earlier this year for attempting to re-enter Arizona illegally has been sentenced to two years in federal prison.

Federal prosecutors say Allan Yair Najera-Valenti was apprehended by Nogales Station Border Patrol agents on May 12.

During processing, an automated fingerprint system showed Najera-Valenti was convicted in Phoenix in both 1998 and 2009.

The first conviction was for unlawful possession of a firearm by an illegal immigrant and resulted in a 15-month prison sentence.

The other conviction was for misconduct involving a weapon and got Najera-Valenti another 18 months in prison.

Authorities say Najera-Valenti previously was deported from the country through Arizona and will be formally removed again after he serves his 24-month incarceration.
