    A Honolulu woman was sentenced Tuesday to 172 months in prison on methamphetamine trafficking charges stemming from a probe by HSI. Full Story

    September 23, 2015 — ICE Emergency Management Specialist responded to and learned from active shooter incident


    From the time she was a toddler, Helen Vettori, emergency management specialist from ICE National Emergency Management Division, wanted to be a “fireman.” On her third birthday, she received a red peddle fire engine, complete with two wooden ladders and a shiny bell. Her family lived a block away from a dangerous intersection where traffic accidents occurred at least once a week. Vettori “responded” to those accidents in her little fire engine. Full Story

    South Texas man sentenced to more than 4 years in federal prison for attempting to smuggle weapons into Mexico
    On Sept. 23, U.S. District Judge Alia Moses sentenced Roberto Reyna, 25, from Uvalde, Texas, to 57 months in federal prison to be followed by three years of supervised release. Reyna pleaded guilty to the charge Jan. 22.

    Former Chicago nightclub bouncer arrested on charges of operating illegal steroid lab from his suburban home
    Joseph T. Palermo, 33, of Oak Lawn, Illinois, imported anabolic steroids, human growth hormones and pharmaceuticals from outside the United States for about five years, according to a federal criminal complaint and affidavit. According to these charges, the shipments from China arrived in the form of raw liquid or powder, which Palermo manufactured into usable steroids and distributed to large-scale dealers in the Chicago area.

    Michael Edwin Harding, 27, of Port St. Lucie, was charged with receiving and distributing material involving sexual exploitation of minors and with possession of child pornography.

    Malia Arciero, 34, appeared Tuesday before Chief U.S. District Judge Susan Oki Molloway. In January, a federal grand jury convicted Arciero of four counts of intentionally distributing 50 or more grams of methamphetamine.

    Mexican man sentenced to 3 years in federal prison for his role in the largest marijuana grow field discovered in South Texas
    U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen sentenced Miguel Echevarria-Guizar, 22, from Mexico to 36 months in federal prison. His father Miguel Echevarria-Zuniga, 51, also from Mexico, was sentenced in August to serve 42 months for the marijuana charge and for re-entering the United States after having been deported.

    SEP 25 (WASHINGTON)
    The new head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA's) Office of Diversion Control met with the agency's registered pharmaceutical manufacturers, importers, and exporters this week to discuss how they can prevent pharmaceutical diversion while minimizing the impact on legitimate commerce. Almost 300 registrants attended the conference held September 23 and 24 at National Harbor, Maryland.
