Illegal worker in Sheboygan charged with identity theft

A 25-year-old undocumented worker was charged today in Sheboygan County Circuit Court with felony identity theft for using false documentation to get a job at J.L. French Automotive Castings Inc., according to a criminal complaint.

Marcos A. Sierra-Escamilla, of 1524 N. Seventh St., faces up to four years, nine months in prison and fines up to $22,500 for using a false Social Security number and state ID, obstructing an officer and operating after revocation of the driver’s license he obtained under his real name, the complaint said.

Tim Kellner, J.L. French human resources director, said Sierra-Escamilla is a temporary worker who is employed by Seek, a temporary employment agency.

Sierra-Escamilla was discovered after an anonymous informant told police he had been bragging about warrants out for his arrest and the fact that he was in the country illegally. Sierra-Escamilla was deported about three years ago but returned to the United States in November 2005, the complaint said.

Sierra-Escamilla had filed a federal employment eligibility form, a Social Security card and a Wisconsin ID card with an employment agency under the name Robert L. Stephens before being placed at J.L. French, the complaint said. Sierra-Escamilla told police his brother had obtained the documents for him.

Sierra-Escamilla was arrested Monday, and on his person and in his car police found a second Social Security card with a different number, various Mexican ID cards under his real name and a resident alien card under another assumed name.

Kellner told police a man using the name Robert L. Stephens was a temporary worker at the company, the complaint said.
