Jeff Sessions Responds To GAO Report Revealing Dramatic Breakdown In Border Security

    From Senator Jeff Sessions website:

Sessions Responds To GAO Report Revealing Dramatic Breakdown In Border Security

    Friday, January 11, 2013

This report demonstrates, despite the pleas of millions of Americans, the border is still not secure… the Obama administration [has been] engaging in a sustained and reckless dismantling of enforcement…securing our borders must remain our number one priority.”

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued a statement today regarding a report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on the breakdown in border security. For instance, the report estimates that nearly 40% of illegal immigrants eluded apprehension to gain passage into the United States through the Tucson, Arizona sector.

You can view the GAO report here. Sessions’ comments follow:

“This report demonstrates, despite the pleas of millions of Americans, the border is still not secure. Just a few years ago, we were within reach of achieving true border security, but the Obama administration has undone those efforts, engaging in a sustained and reckless dismantling of enforcement – pulling resources from the border, ignoring sanctuary cities that refuse to comply with federal law enforcement, suing states that are rightly trying to help enforce our laws, gutting programs to train state and local law enforcement, and granting backdoor amnesty. Because of this, securing our borders must remain our number one priority.”

    Thanks HTBME.

Looks like Senator Sessions is standing strong, unlike the unprincipled flip floppers Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan.

Here is an excerpt from a recent New York Times story:

Some conservative Republicans made it clear they would not support Mr. Rubio. In a statement, Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama said Mr. Obama had undercut the chances for an overhaul by weakening enforcement. “If the administration had spent the last four years ending illegality instead of abetting it,” he said, “we would be in a better position for some kind of agreement.”
