A Mexican man is in Kerr County Jail after a landowner spotted him Monday near the area where he fled early Monday from deputies.

Emilio Villa Verduzco, 45, is being held on an immigration detainer and on a Dallas County warrant for cocaine possession. Sheriff Rusty Hierholzer said other local charges are being considered.

According to deputy reports, Verduzco’s car was spotted by security personnel near the James Avery retail store shortly after 1:30 a.m. Deputies observed Verduzco walking near a building on the Avery property, and when the suspect fled, deputies gave chase.

During a pursuit, Deputies Michael Gulledge and Kevin Ancelet chased Verduzco through properties on Harper Road crossing several fences, including a 6-foot chain link fence, before entering a wooded area, where they lost contact with him. During the chase, Ancelet injured his ankle while descending a cliff after the suspect.

On Monday, a landowner in the area called the sheriff’s department to report a suspicious man on his property. When deputies arrived at the scene, they located Verduzco, who was carrying a Mexico identification card with a different name.

According to sheriff’s reports, Verduzco told investigators he tried to enter a building at Avery saying he wanted to use a phone. Fingerprints recovered from the scene revealed the Dallas County warrant.
