ATLANTA (AP) - Federal authorities say a man accused of killing his wife in South Carolina has been arrested near Atlanta.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, said in a news release Thursday that 43-year-old Gerardo Rodriguez Villarreal was arrested Wednesday. ICE says Rodriguez, who is Mexican and is in the country illegally, was arrested while working at home in Norcross.

A murder warrant out of West Columbia, South Carolina, alleges that Rodriguez forced his way into the home of his estranged wife's sister in April 2010. The warrant says he hit his wife several times in the head with a handgun and then stabbed her multiple times.

Rodriguez was in the Gwinnett County jail until he can be extradited to South Carolina. It wasn't immediately clear if he has a lawyer.
