Man Tasered by border agents hospitalized

SAN YSIDRO — A 32-year-old Mexican man was in critical condition Saturday and not expected to live after an altercation with federal border officers at the San Ysidro Port of Entry Friday.

The man was in the process of being deported, San Diego police said Saturday.

Homicide detectives are investigating the incident involving U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents. Police said the man stopped breathing after officers used a Taser to subdue him.

Police said the man and his brother were arrested about 7:20 p.m. Friday on suspicion of entering the United States illegally. The man was being turned over to Mexican officials in Tijuana when he became violent after agents removed his handcuffs, police said.

Police said the man and agents fell to the ground during the fight and Customs and Border Protection agents were called for assistance. A customs agent used the Taser and the man stopped breathing shortly afterward, police said. Agents administered CPR and paramedics took him to a hospital, police said.

The man’s name and his brother’s were not released pending notification of their family. The brother is still in federal custody, police said.

A witness from a migrant rights group said she saw the incident from the Mexican side of the border and claims the man was chased down and beaten while border crossers yelled at the agents to stop. She requested her name not be used out of fear of retaliation, but identified herself as a member of the Coalicion Pro Defensa de Migrantes, (Coalition for the Defense of Migrants).

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection released a press statement saying the incident happened at the repatriation gate and that the man was subdued with an “electronic defense moduleâ€

Of course we believe this impartial and honest immigrants rights group. (sarcasm alert). When will they claim racism?

If they stop breathing after being tazed then it usually means one thing and that is that he was on drugs. Local law enforcement agencies cannot use a taser on someone who looks like or is known to be a drug user.

no no , you've got it wrong , we SHOULD beleive them .. and we should allow them to spread this rumor to as many migrants as is humanly possible ... i feel sorry for the poor man that died , and i think it was an accident ... but if CPDM wants to spread the myth that our border patrol agents are now beating people to death ... well OK then ..

A 32-year-old Mexican national was in critical condition Saturday and was not expected to survive after being shot with a stun gun in a fight with federal agents at the San Ysidro border crossing, authorities said.

The scuffle took place about 9:15 p.m. Friday at the U.S. Border Patrol facility at the port of entry, said San Diego police Capt. Jim Collins.

Collins said Border Patrol agents arrested the man and his brother on Otay Mountain about two hours earlier on suspicion of entering the United States illegally.

Agents brought the men to the San Ysidro station for processing. The 32-year-old signed paperwork accepting his voluntary return to Mexico and his brother was to be returned at a later time, Collins said.

At the Border Patrol station gate leading to Mexico, agents removed the man’s handcuffs and he became violent, Collins said.

Mexico accuses U.S. Border Patrol of excessive force in stun gun incident

The Mexican government says a man whom U.S. authorities shot with a stun gun at a San Diego County border crossing is unconscious and in serious condition.

The Mexican consulate in San Diego said in a statement Saturday night that agents from the Border Patrol and Customs and Border Protection agencies appear to have used excessive force in the Friday confrontation. It said it was trying to establish contact with the Mexican man's family.

Border Patrol spokesman Daryl Reed said the man was taken to a San Diego-area hospital Friday night at the San Ysidro border crossing separating San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico. Reed says the man had become combative.

The man's name has not been released.

I was wondering how long it would take for the Mexican government to comment.

The Mexican Governemt relying on what they deem a reliable witness report such as the witness at the border they have determined excessive force was used by a US Border Patrol agent to protect himself from an assault on a federal agent.

The Mexican Government denounces this use of force by Taser and would have never attempted to use any reasonable force necessary on their own citizens or an alien in their country. The Mexican Government would have asked the guy politely to stop his assault or they would be forced to call his Mother and report his poor attitude to her.

The Mexican Government adhores this type of force on anybody and as a member in good standing with the various human rights organizations makes a strong stance to tell the US we are wrong and should have allowed their undesirable Mexican citizen to continue to assault the federal agent until the agent was dead.

There are some people on this earth who make a better gift to mankind by not breathing anymore air and this is definately one fine candidate.

Somebody needs to pull the respirator plug on him and save the cost of electrictity being used to keep him alive.

They should have tasered the guy in a manner that he fell on the Mexican side so this witness could come and drag him to the police who would have stood there and laughed at the guy and probably gave him a kick or two. Then we wouldn't have to be using taxpayer dollars keeping this piece of crap alive in a hospital.
