Andy Ostory has posted a poignant message about his wife, Adrienne Shelly, whose accused murderer, illegal alien day laborer Diego Pillco, reportedly tried to cover up the crime by faking a suicide scene.

New Yorkers speak out about compromised borders and safety. A sample:

Adrienne Shelly did not commit suicide but was murdered, allegedly by an illegal-alien construction worker ("Suicide Actress: It Was Murder," Nov. 7).
Last spring, another illegal-alien construction worker murdered a woman.

I hope their families sue the contractors whose greed caused them to hire these people. If they had followed the law and bothered to check identifications, both these women would be alive.

Since money must be the motive for hiring these illegals, I hope the families sue and get large settlements. Maybe it will cause employers to think twice before endangering neighborhoods by bringing in people who have already broken the law by entering the United States.

The New York Post reported more details of Pillco's employer, who knowingly hired and harbored illegal alien workers.

John Andrews has related thoughts in the Rocky Mountain News on illegal alien crime and the AWOL MSM:

Whatever happened to investigative journalism? As a young White House staffer in 1974, I saw it bring down a president. In the past month, our lazy journalistic watchdogs couldn't even sniff out the main story between two would-be governors.

Granted, Bill Ritter's victory over Bob Beauprez was so broad and deep that no great difference ultimately resulted from the October storm over plea bargains and leaks. Still, that episode is worth reviewing, not as a rehash of the campaign, but as a case study in media attitudes.

You remember the endless stories about a federal agent with the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement who allegedly gave the Beauprez campaign information on a criminal alien who had benefited from a plea bargain allowed by Ritter when he was district attorney. The media compliantly played up the Democrat's attack on his Republican opponent for using the information in an ad. And they had a field day with the FBI leak investigation.

This was grossly hypocritical, because if the leak had come to them, they would have both used it and protected their source. It also revealed an odd lack of interest in the information itself and its relevance to the former district attorney's qualifications for higher office. Why weren't the media energetically digging up this seamy stuff on their own?

Instead of joining one side's "shoot the messenger" ploy against the other, a truly vigilant press would have been (and still should be) probing what other skeletons are buried in the data on illegal alien crime. Try these questions for starters:

What percentage of arrests for DUI offenses in 2005 were illegal aliens? Recall that Justin Goodman of Thornton was killed in 2004 on his motorcycle by an illegal alien driver who had six prior DUI and other driving violations in Boulder and Adams counties. The man had never been referred to ICE for deportation.

Does the Denver city attorney's standing policy of not asking questions in court about the legitimacy of Mexican driver's licenses presented by defendants have any consequences for the law-abiding citizens of Denver? Recall that the man who killed police officer Donnie Young had used an invalid Mexican driver's license to avoid jail in Denver municipal court only three weeks before the slaying.

Why is it that a full year after the Colorado attorney general stated that one- quarter of Colorado's outstanding fugitive homicide warrants are for people who have fled to Mexico, no newspaper has asked how many of the individuals named in the warrants were illegal aliens with prior arrests? (In Los Angeles County, there are more than 400 such fugitive warrants.)

How are sanctuary cities like Durango, Boulder and Denver responding to SB 90, the new state law passed in 2006 to outlaw sanctuary cities? What is ICE doing to respond to SB 90?

If Denver received federal reimbursement for the incarceration of more than 1,100 illegal aliens in 2004, why were only 175 deported when they finished their terms? What subsequent crimes did the other 925 criminal aliens commit?

Think of how newspapers cover every other major policy issue--the war, abortion, health care, homeland security, racial discrimination, you name it. They have no problem taking one "anecdote" and using it to illustrate what they see as systemic failures. They have no problem sensationalizing individual cases"undocumented workers" and their families. But point out a crime victim of an illegal alien? All of sudden, the journalism-by-anecdote school can't accept such "emotional" and "ideological" story-telling.

Funny--or rather, not so funny--how that works, isn't it?

A couple of readers mistakingly believe that those of us calling attention to Pillco's illegal status somehow believe the crime would have been less heinous or tolerable if he were legal.

It's hard for me to understand how you could miss the very simple point:

If our physical borders were adequately enforced, if illegal alien smuggling laws were adequately enforced, if employer sanctions were adequately forced, and if illegal alien sanctuary laws were abolished, Diego Pillco would never have been able to come here, stay here, work here, and kill here. And Adrienne Shelly would be alive today.

Lax immigration enforcement has consequences-- and it ain't all about cheap lettuce and hotel rates. Just ask the 9/11 Families for a Secure America.

Farmers Branch city councilmembers unanimously approved three controversial ordinances Monday night designed to discourage illegal immigrants from living or working in the city limits.

The first ordinance designates English as the official language of Farmers Branch. The second calls for the training of local law officers to enforce federal laws on immigration. The third punishes any business owners who employ illegal immigrant or landowners who rent to them...

They're doing the job the feds won't do--and the job the open-borders RNC doesn't want the feds to do.

I just got a postage paid envelope asking me to subscribe to the local newspaper. I'm just going to complain that their paper contains words such as "undocumented worker" and "undocumented immigrant" which as it concerns me makes them a Hispanic newspaper. I do not buy Hispanic stuff.

Have you considered, going to the NYC Council to demand that background checks to be done on supers and building workers? Or for contractors before they are allowed to work in NYC residential or commercial buildings?

Women in NYC are terrified now that it's known a building handyman and illegal immigrant murdered your wife because she dared to make a request. To me it is very clear that this was a hate crime. Your wife is no longer alive because she is a white woman, an American and a professional.
My heart goes out to you. I sincerely hope that you and your daughter find some way to deal with your loss.

I read that too gofer. That just ain't right! The ultimate dangers of PC and multiculturalism. Hopefully even in NYC they are getting a belly full of it. The press needs to be in court right along with the other traitors when this is all said and done. They are directly complicit in obfuscating and trying to "soften" heinous crimes such as this murder and rape/assaults.

The feds won’t do it, especially now that our pro-amnesty president has a pro-amnesty Congress to work with. The states are famously bad at it, so bad that Texas itself is resorting to asking people to watch its own border on webcams that hardly ever work. I’ve tried watching them. Several times. They hardly. ever. work.

So Farmers Branch, near Dallas and hundreds of miles from the border, is taking matters into its own hands.

Council members in Farmers Branch unanimously approved tough new anti-immigration measures Monday evening, including one that makes English the official language.

In a series of 6-0 votes, the council members also approved fines for landlords and businesses that deal with illegal immigrants, and allowed local authorities to screen suspects in police custody to see if they are in the country illegally.

The votes were made in a room in City Hall packed with people who clapped as the votes were tallied in favor of the measures. In a parking lot outside, hundreds of protesters against the rules hoisted American flags and sang the Pledge of Allegiance in English before the votes were taken.

“Moderate” LULAC won’t take this lying down. But that doesn’t mean the council didn’t entertain a comedian or two:

Attorneys with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, a civil rights advocacy group, told city council members during the closed meeting that the proposals could violate federal law.

Don’t illegals violate federal law by traipsing across the border? Funny how these Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund types never mention that.

The measures make it illegal to rent to illegal aliens. Who, of course, shouldn’t even be there. According to reports on the ground that didn’t make it into the local media’s accounts, LULAC is basically threatening to sue Farmers Branch into the ground over these laws, both to make it rescind its laws and to teach other US cities and towns a lesson: Don’t mess with illegals, or we’ll use your own courts to destroy you. At the same time, the children of illegals are registering to vote (they’re citizens) and, thanks to the dishonest pro-illegal campaigns that have been waged across the country in the past year, think they’re voting to protect their parents’ rights. To break the law.

Apparently Brazilians are the largest growing group of illegals crossing the US-Mexico border illegally. The people back in Brazil then use that money to buy homes in subdivisions and sometimes subdivisions themselves.

I live not to far from Farmers Branch and I could not be prouder. Now if my city and hell maybe our country could just follow its example we’d live in a much better place.

The ACLU is a freggin joke and so is LULAC is they try to fight for ILLEAGAL’ rights? I thought you had to be a citizen or hold a green card or visa to get rights?

Today the Los Angeles City Council voted to (and Mayor Villaraigosa will sign) force private hotels in LA to pay a certain amount of ‘minimum wages’ to illegal workers. This, they hope, will spread across the rest of the industries.

He wants to be Governor of California, after Schwarzenegger.

A similar law to Farmers Branch was passed twice by a majority council in Escondido, CA, and the ACLU filed just in time to stall implementation, which would have been on Nov. 18, 2006.

Slightly off topic, but illegal immigration related …

I just received notice from the Arizona Game and Fish Department that I was drawn for the January ’07 archery javelina hunt. The notice has what is called a ‘hunt number’ (simply a reference number for the time and place where you have been permitted to hunt.) Anyway, I knew the place, but I could not recall the time for the hunt number and had to look it up in the hunt supplement provided here - http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/documents/2007 ... lement.pdf

Showing a friend where I was going to hunt, I turned to the map at the end of the supplement (p 12). The area I will be in is the far southeastern corner of the map. Note the big heavy black dotted line drawn all around the southern part of the state. Then read the legend regarding the note –

“Homeland security issues along the international border may affect the quality of a person’s hunt.”

Americans are too well behaved. Maybe somebody should kick up a ruckus about the border, Kelo, illegals getting social benefits, etc. I don’t mean sulk…I mean stand up…unworried about how they spell your name in the papers.

Ugh! Your post is depressing but I know you’re right. The ACLU and other liberal interest groups are well-funded and target the smaller groups because they know they can win. I’m no fan of Pat Robertson but I’ll give him kudo’s for one thing: starting the ACLJ. Although it mainly targets religious causes, it’s a start. I wish there were more that targeted causes just like this one. It’s about getting organized around conservative causes. Any takers?

The sentiments of the posts so far are great, it’s our nation and it’s our decision to make.
It’s our nation to shape.

However, we are throwing rocks at a moving giant, that’s the reality.
That’s not to depress anybody, but to fix this situation we need to understand that to get it fixed we must think big and our actions must be big.
Else wise learn to speak the language.

To counter, we need to unify into one large group and grow strong enough to demand change and effect that change.

The mission to stop the invasion of America is growing stronger. All that is needed is to get information out to enough people and support will spread.

I was shocked to learn during this last election that a fair percentage of liberal voters actually thought Demos stopped Republicans from passing an amnesty.
Misinformation has to be rectified.

Talk to everyone you possibly can, educate yourself and everyone else you possibly can. Every American I’ve talked to that understood the facts was outraged and that’s what it will take.
Immense outrage from very large numbers of united Americans.
So far the momentum has started to swing in the direction of enforcement.

I believe the aiders and abettors of invasion realize this and they are gearing up the giant.
That includes from top to bottom.

We’ve got to join organizations and work to get out the message.
There’s a lot of work to do, but it’s not so hard if you think of your children’s future.
What will they experience during their lifetimes?

It’s not corny and it’s not hopeless, it’s our mission to accomplish.

To ensure the American invasion success.

All we need do is nothing, I’m sure it will be (relatively) painless and there isn’t any need to worry, our children, our grandchildren will just be citizens of another nation, unknown to us.

For us the gentle soft night will envelope our regretful souls and carry us away, so that eternity will see our contribution as so much dust, playing about, to no great effect.

Outstanding! I worked in Farmers Branch for several years and there was a lot I liked about the place. Definitely one of the better managed cities in the country.

I live just outside Farmers’ Branch, and there are people kicking up dirt about this on both sides. The fact that we’re hundreds of miles north of the border and the council actually passed legislation about this should indicate how bad the situation really is.

First the business signs were in English, then English AND Spanish. Now there are some places that only advertise in Spanish.

Texas has always been a thorn in the side of the Dhimmicrats. I think they want illegal immigrants in Texas so they’ll have children who’ll grow up and vote to secede and join Mexico. Then all the Texas electoral votes for Republicans would be gone. Those evil $#@%&^*!!!

Im sitting in Farmers Branch now as I type this. Its amazing what a hell hole this place has become in a relativly short time. The idea that our own government allows this stuff to happen angers me more than I can put into words. Our office is getting out come January & moving to Addison. Maybe this place will be worth living/working in again, we’ll see.

do ya remember when I told ya’ll that the voting signs in Corpus Christi on election day were in SPANISH (”VOTE AQUI”)? Illegal immigration is a problem everywhere - kudos to Farmer’s Branch for having the balls to deal with it. I have flipped on this issue - I used to be “pro Bush comprehensive plan” but that sign on voting day changed my mind.

That’s exactly right and Domingo Garcia is their leader. He went to Dallas schools with high Hispanic population and got all the 18 year old Hispanic kids to sign up to vote and they are going to vote exactly the Domingo tells them because otherwise their Illegal parents will get sent back. It’s the perfect plan to take over a country! I saw a Hispanic Club live Downtown Dallas show that they run late at night. The Host was enraging the people at the club to go down to Farmers Branch and take care of it. One of the guys had the mexican costume with the bullet belts and held up a toy gun and pointed it to the camera. If you live in Dallas and your any other ethnicity than Hispanic your a minority now. It’s only going to get worse when Bush opens the gates. I beleive in Immigration reform but a country should be able to choose who it wants to allow citizenship to. It’s the citizen’s right not the the Illegal Aliens.

BRAVO to the City Council of Farmers Branch. The ACLU is currently threatening to sue the City of Escondido, CA over the same thing.
The city passed the same ordanance a month ago and it is due to go into effect this coming weekend, providing the ACLU doesn’t obtain a restrining order to prevent its enactment.
What I want to know is, How in God’s name can civil liberties organizations think that people who are here illegally, are being discriminated against and are having their rights trampled on?
I have always been under the impression that you had to be a citizen/legal resident, have rights protected by the Constitution, or have all of my Government classes been wrong all of these years?
Since the National Govt. has failed to enforce the laws on the books against the hiring of illegal aliens, then the local and stste govts. need to start doing it.
