KAHOKA, Mo. – U.S. Rep. Sam Graves pushed Friday for immigration and regulatory reform during stops in Kahoka and Memphis, Mo.

However, approximately 35 citizens at Steve’s Family Diner in Kahoka were just as interested in Graves’ take on sequestration and other federal budget-related matters.

Saying the fast track to U.S. citizenship never has worked, Graves added he wants to put more teeth into the E-Verify system that checks a person’s identity to help businesses make sure people who they hire are in the U.S. legally. More than 200,000 employers already participate in the voluntary program, according to Graves.

His Secure America with Verification and Enforcement Act also would add 5,000 border patrol agents and fencing and vehicle barriers at borders. In addition, the bill would increase the number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and expedite the process of removing illegal aliens from the U.S.

The legislation has been referred to the House Homeland Security Committee.

When asked how illegal immigration ever can be controlled, Graves said the fence on the U.S./Mexico border between San Diego, Calif., and Tijuana, Mexico, has slowed illegal immigration considerably.

Bravo Congressman Graves! How about it people? call the guy's office and give him a heart felt "thank you." The good guys need encouragement when they try to do right. According to Jan Brewer of AZ the telephone calls supporting her efforts to control illegal immigration were very important in encouraging her to keep fighting.

Also we should call the House Homeland Security Committee's members and demand they approve this bill and send it to the full House for a vote. It's time we stopped playing defense and did some counter attacking. We should make the open borders lobby divert some of their time and resources fighting our proposed legislation.

You can do this in all the spare time you have after all the calls you make to demand no legal status of any kind for illegal immigrants.

And be sure to get in a dig against Rubio and Paul for their stealthy attempts to sneak in amnesty (by another name). We must counter the attempts, by some naive "conservatives," (e.g. Sean Hannity) to make heroes of those guys. We must make Rubio, Paul et al aware that no matter what else they say or do, if they do not fight with us against any legal status for illegal aliens, we will fight like hell to thwart their political ambitions. No "comprmoises" on amnesty; illegal aliens must leave the country or everything else is meaningless and ineffectual.
