Myrick Calls For Deputies To Have Federal Immigration Authority

North Carolina Congresswoman Sue Myrick on Friday pushed to give some Mecklenburg County sheriff's deputies the power to federal handle immigration cases.

Myrick, a Republican, spoke at a congressional hearing about illegal immigration issues held in her office in Gastonia. The House Government Reform Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources held the hearing to get input from local law enforcement officials.

Myrick and Rep. Patrick McHenry, a Republican who represents the state's 10th district and is a member of the subcommittee, organized the hearing. The subcommittee chairman, Rep. Mark Souder (R-Indiana) moderated the hearing.

McHenry serves on the subcommittee, which is part of the House Committee on Government Reform.

The North Caroline meeting was one of many being held across the country this summer focusing on immigration issues.
