THE BRONX - Bronx residents and students in the New York State Youth Leadership Council rallied outside P.S. 89 today for financial aid for undocumented students.

They are pushing for state leaders to pass the DREAM (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) Act which would allow those students to receive government financial aid for college.

DREAM Act advocate and state Sen. Joe Klein say the legislation would cost taxpayers 87 cents each.

“We need to find a way to pay for it,” said Klein.

Klein also said that it is important to make sure citizens have access to the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).

According to a recent study by the Fiscal Policy Institute, extending TAP to undocumented students would cost an estimated $17 million per year.
