U.S. Reps. Ed Pastor and Raul Grijalva asked President Barack Obama to stop Arizona from implementing the new immigration law, which allows police to question and arrest people they suspect of being illegal immigrants.

Pastor and Grijalva, both Democrats, wrote Obama today asking him and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder take necessary steps to keep the controversial measure from being implemented.

“We urge you in the strongest terms possible to commence a lawsuit against the Arizona Legislature challenging Senate Bill 1070 on the grounds that the U.S. Congress has preempted the field of immigration enforcement in this country, that Senate Bill 1070 violates this country’s Civil Rights and the Safe Streets Act, and that SB 1070 violates the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution which guarantees every person Equal Protection under the law,” the Pastor, Grijalva letter reads.

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, ACLU and other critics of the bill have said they also plan to sue the state over the law. They argue it will result in police unfairly targeting Latinos.

Public opinion polls show a majority of state voters support the measure. State. Sen. Russell Pearce, R-Ariz., and Gov. Jan Brewer contend it gives police another tool to battle Mexican drug cartels, gangs and smuggling rings operating in Arizona and exploiting the Southwestern border.

Pastor represents Phoenix while Grijalva’s district includes Tucson, Nogales, Gila Bend and Yuma. Grijavla has called for tourism and economic boycotts of his home state in the wake of the measure’s approval.

thats it you two, go ahead and screw the people you say you represent.

Forget the fact that 4 different illegal immigration ballot measures have passed in your state by the people of Arizona, by a 3-to-1 ratio, including 60 percent of hispanics.
