Rep. Gutiérrez Cites Breitbart Reporting, Compares Immigration Hawks To Children’s Book ‘If You Give A Mouse A Cookie’

Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL) lambasted conservatives seeking to remove immigration language from the National Defense Authorization Action as reminiscent of the demanding mouse in the children’s book “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.”

The House ultimately voted to strip the immigration language in question — which called on the Pentagon to consider allowing illegal immigrants granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals to enlist — Thursday evening.

Earlier in the day, however, Gutierrez took to the House floor to attack the conservative’s effort to remove the language and Breitbart News’ coverage of the issue — specifically the use of the word “amnesty.”

“Breitbart, in one article a couple of days ago used the word ‘amnesty’ 20 times in less than 1400 words while ticking off the Members who might lose elections to more anti-immigrant candidates if the two studies are allowed to be included in a Defense bill,” he noted.

According to Gutiérrez, the conservatives are like the “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie” title character, who was never satisfied simply with a cookie — he then needed milk, then a straw, etc.

“Anything you give the little mouse is going to lead to a newer and bigger request. That’s what it must feel like to the Speaker of the House Boehner with his nativist wing of his party,” Gutiérrez said.

“If you give them 30,000 more border patrol guards, Mr. Speaker, they’re going to ask you for more deportations,” he charged. “And if you give them a record number of deportations, they’re going to ask the Speaker for a vote to more quickly deport vulnerable children.”

The Illinois Democrat continued speaking in the same style as the children’s book, arguing that conservative calls for more forceful immigration policies will get more demanding the more success they have.

“If you give them the vote for quicker deportations of children, they will demand a vote to deport all DREAMers who have permission to work in the United States legally — 700,000 of them,” Gutiérrez said. “And if you give them the vote on deporting DREAMers, they will ask for a hearing on amending the Constitution to eliminate birthright citizenship.”

“And then at some point they will demand that every single reference to anything related to immigrants without papers — even a research project – be declared an amnesty and stripped from legislation,” he said.

Gutiérrez concluded by arguing that conservative demands will result in the end of the Republican Party as a powerful force.

“At some point, I respectfully suggest you cut off the mouse’s supply of cookies,” he said.

I'll be darned, finally some evidence of this Luis Gutierrez's problems. First, he apparently has never read anything past third grade reading. I think this is the second or third time I've heard of him referring to children's books. Does Congress have a reading tutor?

    Reading first, diction next? Maybe?

Is Gutierrez talking about the same Republican Party which voters rewarded with control of both houses of Congress? If he is, the problem that those Repubs have is that their leadership is trying to sell out the American people, to please the big money donors who want additional surplus labor.

I am burning my copy of "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie". Gutierrez just ruined the book for me.

In reality the finger is pointing back at Gutierrez and his illegals.

That's hilarious! He just described illegal aliens, not Americans trying to stop an invasion. But then, Luis isn't an American, something went wrong with his state of mind. That's why he's so confused. He thinks the United States Congress is like a mouse, and Americans who want to protect our country are just a "wing" of the Republican Party, when Americans are the heart and soul of the United States. If he questions our united resolve on this matter, then he should probably talk with some people in Japan or Germany and see our mouse-like we are or aren't.

Gutierrez is a self promoter that seems to see a bigger political position for himself with foreign nationals of a certain ethnicty at the voting booth since gerrymandering a district of Latinos it is the only reason that he was elected to office and the only reason that he holds office today. Mr Obama was also a member of the socialist, New Party. JMO

    Luis Gutierrez

    • Democratic Member of Congress
    • Member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus
    • Proposed legislation granting amnesty and increased benefits to illegal immigrants
    • Pressured President Bill Clinton to free convicted FALN terrorists whose bombs had killed six people
    • Supports the DREAM Act—legislation designed to create a path-to-citizenship for illegal immigrants who came to the United States as minors

Luis Gutierrez was born in Chicago on December 10, 1953, to parents of Puerto Rican ancestry. After graduating with an English degree from Northeastern Illinois University in 1977, he spent approximately seven years working variously as a cab driver, schoolteacher, community activist, and social worker.

From 1984-86 Gutierrez, a Democrat, served as an advisor to Mayor Harold Washington of Chicago. In 1986 Gutierrez was elected alderman of that city's mostly-Hispanic 26th Ward. At the time, he was a member of the Puerto Rican Socialist Party, a Marxist-Leninist entity.

In 1992 Gutierrez won a seat in the U.S. Congress, representing the newly formed Fourth District of Illinois. Gerrymandered from neighborhoods and suburbs west of downtown Chicago, this bizarrely shaped, 75-percent Latino district was designed by Democrats not only to guarantee that the area would have a Latino Representative in Congress, but also to concentrate so many Latinos into a single district that they would pose little threat of unseating any black Democrat in the vicinity. Since then, Gutierrez has been re-elected every two years to the House of Representatives, where he is a member of both the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Progressive Caucus. His political campaigns have drawn significant support from the Democratic Socialists of America.

In the mid-1990s, Gutierrez developed close ties to the pro-socialist New Party in Chicago. In 1995-96 he was a board of directors member of Illinois Public Action, the state's largest public-interest organization, along with such notables as Robert Creamer, Lane Evans, Alice Palmer, Jan Schakowsky, and Quentin Young. And in 1997 Gutierrez served on the board of Citizen Action of Illinois.

In 1999 Gutierrez collaborated with fellow Progressive Caucus members Jose Serrano andNydia Velazquez to pressure President Bill Clinton (through Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder) to free 16 convicted terrorists belonging to the FALN, a Marxist-Leninist paramilitary organization. For details, click here.

During his years in Congress, Gutierrez has cultivated a reputation as the Democratic Party's leading strategist and spokesperson on immigration issues, and has been at the forefront of the effort to pass comprehensive immigration reform legislation. In 2001 he became the firstelected official to sponsor a version of the DREAM Act—legislation designed to create a path-to-citizenship for illegal immigrants who came to the United States as minors.

In 2004 Gutierrez was a guest speaker at a “Take Back America” conference organized by the Campaign for America's Future, an organization dominated by the Democratic Socialists of America and the Institute for Policy Studies.

In 2005 Gutierrez joined the Out of Iraq Congressional Caucus. To view a list of additional Caucus members, click here.

In 2008 Gutierrez was appointed to the National Latino Advisory Council of Barack Obama's presidential campaign, along with such notables as Xavier Becerra, Henry Cisneros, Raul Grijalva, Eliseo Medina, Linda Sanchez, Hilda Solis, and
Nydia Velazquez.

The following year, Gutierrez co-sponsored the Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act, a bill to create a pathway-to-citizenship for non-criminal illegal immigrants. He also led a multi-city tour whose purpose was to draw public attention to the hardships that immigrant families and communities were experiencing as a result of deportations.

In 2010 Gutierrez threatened to oppose the Democratic healthcare-reform bill because it included provisions that would prohibit illegal immigrants from purchasing coverage through government-run exchanges. He ultimately decided to back the legislation, however, because he was confident that Congress would soon “move forward on a comprehensive immigration reform package.” But later that year, Gutierrez, dissatisfied with the pace of progress on immigration reform, openly encouraged acts of nonviolent civil disobedience to force Congress to act. “We cannot be a slave to the legislative process,” he said. “That’s what we’ve done, and it hasn’t served us very well.”

In late July 2011, Gutierrez was arrested for participating in a sit-in outside the White House to demand that President Obama stop the deportation of illegal immigrants.

At an August 2013 town hall event in Chantilly, Virginia, Gutierrez warned that if a comprehensive immigration-reform bill was not passed soon:
“[S]omeone is going to die in that [Southwestern U.S.] desert trying to return to their families.... Someone’s going to lose a finger, a hand, an eye, a life today because an unscrupulous employer is going to put them in harm’s way. Someone’s going to die. There’s a woman that’s going to be raped in a field somewhere in America today because she has no rights in this country, and we need to end that.... There are children who are going to cry and there are marriages that are going to be destroyed because someone is going to be deported, and there are going to be children that are going to be left orphaned in this country.”
On October 8, 2013, Gutierrez was one of eight members of Congress (all Democrats) who were arrested when they sat in the middle of Independence Avenue and blocked rush-hour traffic during an immigration rally on Washington’s National Mall. The 15,000-plusdemonstrators called for the passage of legislation allowing illegal immigrants to apply for U.S. citizenship. Also arrested were Representatives Joseph Crowley, Keith Ellison, Al Green, Raul Grijalva, John Lewis, Charles Rangel, and Jan Schakowsky.

At a July 2014 National Council of La Raza convention, Gutierrez told attendees that he was confident that President Obama would use executive action to give legal status to millions of immigrants who were living in the U.S. unlawfully. In a television interview a few days later, Gutiérrez said he would soon be meeting with White House officials “to negotiate additional terms and avenues the president can use” as means of securing amnesty for millions. “I think we can get 3 or 4, maybe even 5 million people,” he stated.

On August 1, 2014—in the midst of a sudden, massive influx across America's southern border by more than 50,000 unaccompanied, illegal-immigrant minors hailing from Central America—Gutierrez asserted that “the real, fundamental problem” with the Republican Party was that its more conservative (and supposedly influential) members were deeply concerned with such matters as: “How do we get meaner, how do we get nastier with immigrants?”

That same day, during a press conference with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Gutierrez accused Republicans of having reached the “least common denominator of hatefulness.” Warning that Hispanics in America would never forget Republicans' anti-immigrant attitudes—as evidenced by GOP opposition to amnesty and to President Obama’s 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals decisionthe congressman added:

    • “The way you treat one of us today is the way you have treated all of us, and we will remember that. Not only do they treat the children, that are in such need of protection, it is almost as though they despise and hate all of our children.”
    • Apparently the loudest, meanest, most vile voices are the ones that are dominating the [Republican] caucus, and that’s unfortunate.”
    • Let me also say that look unfortunately, the way they [Republicans] speak about a community, it is almost as if the children, we are a vile, repugnant community to them, that they vilify and demonize in every one of their statements.”

While speaking to the City Club of Chicago in early March 2015, Gutierrez boasted that the Windy City's authorities were routinely defying federal immigration law, and that illegal immigrant students graduating from high school were now able to attend their first two years of college “for free”—i.e., at taxpayer expense. Said the congressman:
“On immigration, I want to let everybody know, the city of Chicago is the friendliest immigrant city in the nation and [Mayor] Rahm Emmanuel had a lot to do with tha. He made sure that we no longer cooperate with immigration authorities when it comes to the deportation and separation of our families by using city structures [sic, strictures]. Nobody can be asked when you enroll your kid in a school or seek out care because you’re injured what your immigration status is, and that’s the law in the city of Chicago. Only in the city of Chicago can you graduate from high school with a ‘B’ average and be guaranteed that you are going to be able to go on to your next two years of college for free—only in Chicago—even if you’re undocumented.”
In late March 2015, Gutierrez announced that on his website, illegal immigrants could now download a newly created immigration “toolkit” designed to help them gather the documentation they would need in order to prove their eligibility for President Obama’s recent executive actions to stop deportations—DACA [Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals] and DAPA [Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents]. The kit featured a “Do Not Deport Me” card that Gutierrez urged illegals to keep in their wallets at all times: “Use this card only if you are arrested and detained by an immigration official,” he said. “It explains in English and Spanish that you’re eligible for DACA or DAPA. By using this card after you’ve been arrested or detained, you can explain that under the policy in place today, you should be released because you’re not a priority for deportation.

    About the FALN Pardon.
    Clinton's Controversial Presidential Pardons

On August 11, 1999, Clinton granted a presidential pardon to 16 members of the FALN, acronym for the Armed Forces of National Liberation—a violent terrorist organization (as designated by the FBI) that had been active in the U.S. from the mid-1970s through the early 1980s.

The FALN was a Marxist-Leninist group whose overriding mission was to secure Puerto Rico's political independence from the United States. Toward that end, between 1974 and 1983 the group detonated nearly 130 bombs in such strategically selected places as military and government buildings, financial institutions, and corporate headquarters located mainly in Chicago, New York, and Washington, DC. These bombings were carried out as acts of protest against America's political, military, financial, and corporate presence in Puerto Rico. All told, FALN bombs killed six people—including the Chilean ambassador to the United States—and wounded at least 80 others.

Congress condemned the clemencies by votes of 95-2 in the Senate and 311-41 in the House. In the immediate aftermath of the pardons, a report by the Justice Department stated that the FALN posed an "ongoing threat" to national security. And in late October 1999 the Senate Judiciary Committee released a report from Attorney General Janet Reno stating that the FALN members' "impending release from prison" would "increase the present threat" of terrorism.

A House Committee on Government Reform report stated in December 1999:

"The 16 [FALN] terrorists appear to be most unlikely candidates. They did not personally request clemency. They did not admit to wrongdoing and they had not renounced violence before such a renunciation had been made a quid pro quo for their release. They expressed no contrition for their crimes, and were at times openly belligerent about their actions…. Notwithstanding the fact that the 16 did not express enough personal interest in the clemency process to file their own applications, the White House appeared eager to assist throughout the process. Meetings were held with supporters, and some senior staff [i.e., Holder] even suggested ways to improve the likelihood of the President granting the clemency. Overall, the White House appears to have exercised more initiative than the terrorists themselves."
In the final days of his presidency, in January 2001, Clinton granted another very controversial presidential pardon to the billionaire financier Marc Rich -- a fugitive oil broker who had illegally purchased oil from Iran during the American trade embargo, and who then had proceeded to hide more than $100 million in profits by using dummy transactions in off-shore corporations. Rich later renounced his American citizenship and fled to Switzerland to avoid prosecution for 51 counts of racketeering, wire fraud, tax fraud, tax evasion, and the illegal oil transactions with Iran.

Over the years, Rich's ex-wife Denise had funneled at least $1.5 million to Clinton interests. Some $1.2 million went to the Democratic National Committee, $75,000 went to Hillary Clinton's 2000 Senate campaign, and $450,000 helped finance the Bill Clinton Library in Arkansas. Mrs. Rich also had given expensive gifts to the Clintons and, according to some rumors, had a very close relationship with the President.

Also in January 2001, President Clinton pardoned two former domestic terrorists: Linda Evans and Susan Rosenberg. In the 1970s, Evans and Rosenberg had been members of the Weather Underground, a Marxist-Leninist cult that was launched under the name "Weatherman" in 1969. In 1981 the pair took part in the deadly Brinks armored-car robbery in Nyack, New York, where four men -- two security guards and two police officers -- were shot, three of them fatally. Three years later, Evans and Rosenberg were finally apprehended. At the time, they had 740 pounds of explosives (which they admitted were earmarked for bombings) in their possession. Rosenberg eventually was sentenced to 58 years in prison, Evans to 40 years.

But in early 2001, New York Congressman Jerrold Nadler suddenly intervened on the incarcerated terrorists’ behalf. It seems that Rosenberg’s mother had assembled documents from her daughter’s parole hearings that purportedly showed the latter to be a model prisoner; the mother presented these materials to Rolando Matalon, her rabbi at New York’s liberal Congregation B’nei Jeshurun Rolando Matalon. Rabbi Matalon then gave the documents to Nadler, who was also a member of the congregation, and Nadler in turn passed them on for President Clinton to consider as evidence that Rosenberg might merit consideration for a presidential pardon.

Clinton in fact decided to pardon not only Rosenberg (42 years before her sentence was due to end), but Evans as well (24 years early, in her case)—over the strong objections of Mary Jo White, the U.S. attorney in New York. After her release from prison, Rosenberg was given a job at Congregation B’nei Jeshurun. As attorney Alan Dershowitz put it, “This was a congregational victory.”

Why did Clinton oblige Nadler’s request? Perhaps it was payback to the congressman, who, as a member of the Judiciary Committee in the 1990s, had used his influence to oppose the impeachment proceedings against the President.

It appears that the ongoing threat of the FALN has not diminished.

Yep, and there it is! Any American Representative who gives these people a second thought, let alone the time of day, LET ALONE OUR COUNTRY, needs to be kicked out of office and prosecuted for treason.

We have laws, not all of our laws are good laws and I would like to help change some of those, but our US Immigration, US Labor and US Civil Rights laws are good laws! They, respectively, protect our country from overpopulation, our workers from unemployment and low wages, and our citizens from race and ethnic bias.

So why would any American Representative want to do anything to undermine, bypass, usurp, undercut or ignore such good laws with such an important purpose?

Because they aren't Americans in their state of mind,

Because they're on the take with the cartels behind this travesty, and

Because they're low-life treasonous pond scum.

Illinois Congressional District 4: Worst Example Of Gerrymandering

by Gary Lucido, November 19, 2011 at 7:07 am

From Wikipedia: "In the process of setting electoral districts, gerrymandering is a practice that attempts to establish a political advantage for a particular party or group by manipulating geographic boundaries to create partisan, incumbent-protected districts."

So what is one of the worst examples of gerrymandering in the country? What is the example that the national media uses when talking about gerrymandering? Illinois' congressional district 4, including parts of Chicago, represented by congressman Luis Gutierrez. Check out the map below and tell me if you don't think this is the most ridiculous political game ever. Apparently they had to run the district through the middle of Interstate 294 so that they could maintain a contiguous area of homogenous constituents.

Leave it to Illinois to lead the nation in nasty politics. However, The Chicago Tribune reported today that Republicans are challenging recent congressional redistricting in court. I haven't seen the new maps but could they be any worse than this? I'm surprised this nonsense is tolerated. Why don't they just make a rule that districts can be defined with no more than 6 straight lines - or something similar?
