Sentencing in Vermilion Parish drug trafficking ring

A Duson man and an Opelousas man pleaded guilty to drug charges related to a drug trafficking organization based out of Vermilion Parish. Tobi Domingue, 35, of Duson, and Corey Domingue, 35, of Opelousas, Aaron Landry, of Mariette, GA, and Jose Ruiz-Cervantes, a citizen of Mexico and eight co-defendants were indicted in June of 2009 on drug trafficking and firearms charges. "Evidence revealed that this drug trafficking organization was responsible for the movement and sale of methamphetamine and cocaine from Mexico into the United States, and distribution throughout the Acadiana area. The defendants and their co-conspirators possessed and distributed kilos of methamphetamine and cocaine," said U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley.

Tobi Domingue and Aaron Landry pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine. Jose Angel Ruiz-Cervantes pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine. Corey Domingue pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Cocaine and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime.

"As part of the conspiracy, Tobi Domingue admitted that she sold methamphetamine with her husband, Corey Domingue, and that she participated in the distribution of approximately three to six kilograms of methamphetamine," said Finley. Landry agreed to forfeit the following weapons:

U.S. District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote sentenced Tobi Domingue to 87 months in prison and four years supervised release; Aaron Landry received 94 months in prison and four years supervised release and Ruiz-Cervantes received 97 months in prison, followed by five years supervised release. Corey Domingue, Tobi Domingue, Aaron Landry and Jose Ruiz-Cervantes, along with eight co-defendants, were indicted in June of 2009 on a variety of drug trafficking and firearms charges, along with unlawful use of communication facilities.
