'Show Alabama what they will be missing' one Facebook page says of planned immigration law boycott
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- A boycott of schools and shopping and a work strike, is planned around Alabama on Wednesday by illegal immigrants or those who support them in protest of Alabama's immigration law, according to a Facebook page, at least one Hispanic radio station, and a flyer being distributed in Birmingham.
"We are asking that all friends, Hispanics and supporters please do not shop in Alabama American stores on these(sic) week, please if you need anything go to your local Hispanic store only. Show Alabama what they will be missing! Make sure that you do it longer than a day!!! We need to have an effect on Alabama," according to one Facebook page promoting a boycott.
The page also asks that people not show up to work for two days.
The page is entitled "NO SALGAN, NO ESCUELA, NO COMPREN NADA OCT 12-15 EN ALABAMA," which roughly translated to English means "Don't go out, no school, don't buy anything Oct. 12-15 in Alabama."
Flyers also have been passed out in the Southside area of Birmingham promoting a boycott of school, work and shopping. The flyers say "Unidos podemos romper cualquier barrera" at the bottom. Roughly translated that means "United we can break any barrier."
At least one Hispanic radio station, Aqui Manda La Jefa Spanish, also is promoting a boycott of businesses and a strike by workers.

They tried this in my hometown when the city applied for 287g. They put placards in store windows of those businesses that supported their cause. They found out that business dropped significantly for those stores, not only on their day of protest, but for weeks and months afterwards. It seems the good citizens were offended and took their business elsewhere.

Alabama is enforcing anti illegal immigrant legislation, not anti Hispanic legislation.
