Troy Mom Who Came From Albania Can Stay In U.S. On Year-To-Year Status

It doesn't feel like a leap to suggest that media attention in metro Detroit and beyond bought Cile Precetaj of Troy a reprieve from deporation.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has welcome news for the Albanian mother of three, as WXYZ and other news outlets report.

Attorney Andrew Johnson says that Precetaj got a call from authorities [Friday] telling her to go to the immigration office in Detroit to get her tether removed. It was there that she was told her stay of removal request was granted for one year.
Johnson says once the year is over, they will file another request and repeat the process in the future.

Tresa Baldas of the Free Press, who broke the story earlier this week, reached the suburban immigrant:

Precetaj, who entered the country illegally 13 years ago, has three U.S.-born children with her Albanian husband, no criminal record and has paid taxes for various restaurant jobs she’s held over the years.

“I am very happy. This is good news,” an emotional Precetaj said while eating dinner with her 4-year-old daughter in a Detroit restaurant Friday night. “All I want is to stay here and raise my kids and have a normal life.”
