kwtx.com
WACO (January 7, 2013)—A Department of Public Safety trooper made a routine traffic stop early Monday in Central Texas and ended up arresting a man who’s been a fugitive since 2007.
The trooper pulled over a 2001 GMC pickup with a defective stop lamp at around 6:35 Monday morning on Loop 340 in Bellmead and after investigating, identified the driver as Jose Lucio, 26, despite the man’s denial that was his name, DPS spokesman D. L. Wilson said.
Lucio was named in two aggravated sexual assault of a child warrants issued in 2007 in connection with the sexual assault of a then 7-year-old girl in Fort Worth and had been on the run since they were issued, Wilson said.
He had been in Mexico, Wilson said.
Lucio, who’s listed in online McLennan County Jail records as Jose Lucio-Mares, was held Monday night on bonds totaling $50,000 on the two charges and without bond on an immigration detainer.
