Several people gathered to show their disapproval of the highly controversial topic of housing unaccompanied minors and undocumented immigrants. The protesters showed up in front of the Jones County Courthouse and many of them say that their concerns include the cost, as well as health and safety factors.

"Safety... and with the children, somebody is going to have to educate them and that's going to fall on our public school systems and tax payers. The ad valorem tax rates will go up," says Darrell Ueckert, a protester and concerned Jones County citizen.

"We want to be proactive, not reactive. We don't want illegal aliens here in Jones County. I am sure a lot of taxpayers certainly want to do that because if we have to educate them and give them health care, that's less that we have for our own children and schools," says protester and concerned Jones County citizen, David Andrews.

Jones County Judge, Dale Spurgin, explains that Immigration and Customs Enforcement has made two separate trips to Jones County to tour the vacant facility with the last one being in May, however, they have received no word as to whether the government wants to use the facility or not.

"We have complied with everything to bring that facility online and so its an economic benefit obviously, but there's also concerns about the population that will be there and those concerns will have to be addressed," explains Judge Spurgin.

As of now, the county as well as these concerned citizens are just waiting to hear back from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Judge Spurgin says that if there will be any other action on this item that there will be a public hearing.
