United States, 17th December: Here is wonderful news for undocumented immigrants by the University of California’s Berkeley campus.

The University of California’s Berkeley campus will provide scholarships worth $1 million to undocumented immigrant students.

$1 million to undocumented immigrants by UC Berkeley—By launching a new scholarship fund for Berkeley campus’ undocumented immigrants, the UC Berkeley will donate $1 million to fund studies of such immigrants.

As per the information, nearly 200 students will benefit from this college scholarship funding by Berkeley campus of University of California. It is being regarded as the biggest scholarship grant for undocumented immigrants.

Highest ever scholarship funding for undocumented immigrants- The college scholarship funding is the biggest ever offered by any US university till date. Speaking about the initiative aimed to help undocumented immigrant students, president of the fund Ira Hirschfield said undocumented immigrant students are hardworking and motivated and thus an asset to not only California but the entire nation.

She further urged other foundations including private donors to come forward and assist undocumented immigrant ‘Dreamers’ to fulfill their dreams by giving college scholarships.

Who is eligible for UC Berkeley scholarships-- The recipients of these scholarships by UC Berkeley will be immigrants’ children who came to the US unlawfully and have been living in the US.

For such immigrant children living in the US, getting enrolled in a college in the US is almost impossible in the absence of any loans, work-study positions or federal grants. So, it’s a step in the right direction for helping undocumented immigrants wanting to study in the US.

The scholarships are being funded by a private family foundation named ‘The Evelyn and Walter Haas Junior Foundation’. The Berkeley campus of University of California announced the step of scholarship grant on its official website.

Nearly 200 undocumented immigrants hailing from 20 different nations will get the benefit of free education at Berkeley campus of University of California, regarded to be one of the best universities in the US.

According to information, each recipient’s average family income is $24,000.

Its being hoped that the move by University of California’s Berkeley campus will provide a good example to be followed by other schools for enabling undocumented immigrants realize their dreams of studying in the US.
