BAYTOWN, Texas -A Baytown teenager was shaken up after he shoots and kills one of two burglary suspects he found in his home.
The 18 year old man told police he heard a noise inside him home around 5:30am Wednesday morning on Brentwood and Memorial. He told police he grabbed a shotgun to go investigate.
When the man spotted the two suspects in his home he shot both of them in the abdomen.
One suspect was taken by ambulance to San Jacinto Hospital where he died. Investigators described him as a 40-year-old man who is a suspect in several other burglaries. The second suspect got away from the scene and somehow got to a hospital where he was arrested. At last check he was listed in critical condition at Memorial Hermann.
A neighbor tells FOX 26 that the 18 year old lives in the home by himself and he was a victim of a home burglary a month ago. The man's father told Fox 26 anchor Chris Stipes that he bought him that shotgun 2 weeks ago for protection after the first burglary.
Baytown police say there was another burglary last night in Baytown and the suspects vehicle found at the scene matches the vehicle description of the first burglary.
The burglary suspects were not armed. Baytown police are still interviewing the teenager but don't expect any charges to be filed against him because of the Castle Doctrine. That law allows use of deadly force to stand your ground in your home, business or car. The case will be reviewed by a Harris County grand jury.
Baytown police said the burglary suspects kicked in a back door to gain entrance into the home.
