Bus monitor Karen Huff Klien driven to despair by school bullies on the school bus.
Bus monitor - Karen Huff Klein - driven to despair by school bullies on the school bus
Jun 20, 2012
A school bus monitor monitors the conduct of students on school buses to maintain discipline and safety and participates in school bus safety drills. They also ride school buses to prevent altercations between students and damage to the bus.
Karen Huff Klein is a bus monitor at the Greece Central School District in Rochester, NY.
There is no excuse for the horrendous bullying Klein endures in this video by a group of "teens", which drives her to tears.
It is doubtful that "must be able to stand vicious abuse and discriminatory language" was included in her job description from the school district.

This is so outrageous!!! What kind of monsters are we raising that they think it's okay to act in such a way, much less to make a VIDEO of it?! If my child did this, he would be sorry he was still alive when I got through with him!! PARENTS are responsible for this kind of behavior....cannot we find an American capable and worthy of the trust? ...Why should we take the bread out of the mouths of our own children and give it to strangers?" Boy who shot video of students bullying bus monitor blames peer pressure
Updated: 6/20 11:51 pm
Greece, NY (WSYR-TV/WHAM-TV) – The boy who shot a cell phone video showing kids on a Rochester-area school bus threatening and bullying a bus monitor blames peer pressure and regrets taking part.
“I feel bad about it. They were making fun of her and everything,” said Luis Recio, the boy who shot the video.
Luis’ mother Lucil Tejeda said, “I feel sorry for everybody. I feel very bad.”
The video of Greece Athena Middle School students ended up on Facebook and YouTube and began to spread virally.
The school district identified the woman as Karen Klein, who has worked there for 20 years and became a bus monitor about two years ago.
Klien spoke with NewsChannel 9’s sister station 13WHAM in Rochester. Klein said the comment that hurt the most was when the kids said "you're so ugly your kid should kill themselves." Her son took his life 10 years ago. (See more of what Karen Klein had to say.)
In the video, students taunt Klein about her weight. The students also talk about threatening to go to Klein’s house and steal from her.
It’s unclear when the incident happened.
Police in the town west of Rochester are questioning four students and deciding if charges will be filed in juvenile court.
Greece Central School District spokeswoman Laurel Heiden said the district’s bullying response and prevention team was activated and all students involved will face disciplinary action. The district will also question the bus driver.
The school district has asked YouTube to take down the video.

School Bus Monitor Abused by Students Says She Won’t Quit Her Job
June 21, 2012
ABC News’ John Schriffen reports:
The New York school bus monitor who was seen on video being cruelly taunted by the middle-school students in her care says she plans to keep her job and just wants the students to apologize.
“That’s not like me,” Karen Klein told ABC News when asked whether she might resign from her job as a bus monitor for the Greece School District in Rochester, N.Y. “I’m not a real vindictive person. I just know I want something to happen to make them [the students] realize what they did.”
Klein, a 68-year-old mother of four and grandmother of eight, was riding on a school bus with several students from the district’s Athena Middle School in Rochester on Monday when she was subjected to mean and cruel mockery by several students.
In a 10-minute video that was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday by one of the students on the bus, several students can be heard taunting Klein, telling her she was a “fat ass,” “old ass,” dumb, poor and sweaty. Most of the voices appear to be male, and their comments toward Klein are riddled with profanity.
“I was just was trying to ignore them,” Klein said. “Usually I sit right in back, and I should have that day, but I sat one seat ahead so there was one boy in back of me and one boy in front of me. They just kept it up. They thought it was funny.”
In the video, the students touch her, comment about her hearing aid and make crude sexual references. One asks for Klein’s address so he can go to her home and urinate all over her door, and another discusses stabbing and cutting Klein. They are also heard asking her if she has herpes and if she lives in a trailer.
At one point, she is seen taking off her sunglasses and wiping at her eyes.
“Are you sweating? Karen, Karen! Are you sweating?” one student is heard asking her. She shakes her head, and the student adds: ”Then why is there water on your face?”
“I’m crying,” she replies.
At one point, when Klein tells the students “unless you have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all,” one student replied: “How about you shut the f**k up?”
Klein has worked at the school district for 20 years, mostly as a bus driver. She said this verbal attack was not the first time she had been taunted.
“When I was a driver I had a problem with middle-school kids,” she said. “I’m hoping for something to come of it. I want them to know that they did wrong.”
One boy’s comment was particularly cruel: “You don’t have a family because they all killed themselves because they didn’t want to be near you.”
Klein’s oldest son committed suicide 10 years ago, according to a report by ABC New affiliate 13 WHAM TV in Rochester.
The 10-minute video of Klein’s abuse has been viewed more than 1 million times and sparked a fundraising appeal in hopes of giving Klein a vacation and possibly getting her off the bus permanently.
As of early this morning, a petition posted on indiegogo.com indicated that more than $110,000 was donated to a fund for Klein, far overreaching the expected $5,000 with 30 days still to go in the online campaign. Of the more than 18,000 comments posted on YouTube, most appeared to uniformly condemn the students’ behavior.
“It does make me feel a whole lot better,” Klein said of the positive reaction. “I appreciated everything. I think it’s awesome.”
Police have interviewed four of the students, but no arrests have been made. The Greece school district said its bullying team is investigating, and the students will be disciplined.
The father of one of the teenage boys who was involved in the bullying says his “heart broke” to see that his son was part of the abuse, but that the boys have suffered enough with their faces made public in the video.
“My family’s received death threats,” Robert Helms told ABC News. “He’s a 13-year-old kid. It was a stupid mistake and he’s paying for it but I just think it’s a little out of control.”

Now for the good part, for a Friday feel good.
If the 68 year old Karen Klein receives the money raised for her, she will never have to put up with little animals like that again. I heard that an airline has also donated tickets to Disney World

Lets Give Karen -The bus monitor- H Klein A Vacation!
Karen Huff (The bus monitor) deserves a vacation!
I’m not sure if this has already been brought to everyone’s attention or not, but here is the deal:
Making The Bus Monitor Cry - YouTube
Above is a video of a 68-year-old bus monitor named Karen Klein being verbally harassed by a group of middle schoolers on their way home from Athena Middle School in Greece, New York. Throughout the ten minute video, you can hear the kids verbally berate the woman, calling her a bitch, fatass, poor, ugly, and various other words of the like. At one point in the video, you can hear one of the kids yell, “You’re so ****in poor you fat ass,” in which Karen responds, “I try to live by some of these words, I try and it’s really hard,” referring to the words on her purse.
Now, I don’t know about you, but that broke my (mod edit) heart. There’s even a point in the video where one of the kids touches Karen’s arm in an attempt to make fun of her. I’m not sure why these kids would want to bully a senior citizen to tears, but I feel we should do something, or at least try.
She doesn't earn nearly enough ($15,506) to deal with some of the trash she is surrounded by. Lets give her something she will never forget, a vacation of a lifetime!
