    California Senate: Dem Boxer 45%, Repub-Fiorina 41%

    Friday, July 24, 2009

    Election 2010: California Senate
California Senate: Boxer 45%, Fiorina 41%

Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer leads former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina in an early look at California’s 2010 race for the U.S. Senate.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that Boxer attracts 45% of the statewide vote while Fiorina, her best-known possible Republican challenger, earns 41%. Seven percent (7%) say they’d vote for some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.

In March, Boxer led Fiorina by nine, 47% to 38%.

Any incumbent who polls below 50% early in a campaign is considered potentially vulnerable. However, a Democrat running in a heavily Democratic state like California is often able to overcome weak poll numbers.

Twenty-one percent (21%) of voters statewide have a Very Favorable opinion of Boxer. That’s down six points since March.

Thirty-six percent (36%) have a very unfavorable view of the incumbent, who has been in the Senate since 1993.

Fiorina is far less well known. Just seven percent (7%) have a Very Favorable opinion of her, and 12% hold a Very Unfavorable view.

Only five percent (5%) of California voters rate the economy as good or excellent. Sixty-four percent (64%) say it’s in poor shape. Twenty-eight percent (28%) say things are getting better while 45% say they are getting worse. Nationwide, just 25% believe that the economic stimulus package passed earlier this year has helped the economy.

Fifty-seven percent (57%) of California voters approve of the way President Obama is doing his job. Nationally, the president’s ratings have fallen a bit in recent weeks.

Thirty-eight percent (38%) approve of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's job performance. However, only five percent (5%) Strongly Approve.

Fifty-five percent (55%) oppose a budget deal reached by the state’s political leaders. Sixty-four percent (64%) believe that illegal immigrants place a major strain on the state’s budget.

Democrats in New Jersey and Virginia are trailing in this year’s only two races for governor.

Here's a little information on Carly Fiorina:

    Excerpt:

In January 2004, at a meeting to "head off rising protectionist sentiment in Congress", Fiorina said: "There is no job that is America's God-given right anymore. We have to compete for jobs as a nation."[15][16][17] While Fiorina argued that the only way to "protect U.S. high-tech jobs over the long haul was to become more competitive [in the United States]," her comments prompted "strong reactions" from some technology workers who argued that lower wages overseas outside the United States encouraged the offshoring of American jobs.[18] Fiorina responded against protectionism in an editorial in the Wall Street Journal, writing that while "America is the most innovative country," it would not remain so if the country were to "run away from the reality of the global economy."[19]

    Now Boxer Is In Trouble?
    Posted by Sean
The latest Rasmussen Reports poll shows Senator Barbara Boxer leading her relatively unknown opponent, former Hewlett-Packer CEO Carly Fiorina, by only four points, 45%-41%.

Boxer has never been terribly popular in the Golden State, but given the conditions Democrats have enjoyed the past few years, it is surprising to see her in Elizabeth Dole 2007 territory (though in a much more Democratic state).

Poll after poll shows incumbents once thought to be safe in pretty dangerous territory. These are the dangers of being in charge in the present economy, I guess.

Well Fiorina said that in 2004. She might have a change of heart now that she sees what is happening in our current economy.

Also Fiorina is a "right winger" compared to Barbara Boxer who is one of the most liberal (up there with Obama) Senators.

Boxer is ranked 8th most liberal: She even beats Harry Reid!

    Obama, Barack, D-Ill. 94 94 92 95.5
    Whitehouse, Sheldon, D-R.I. 94 88 94 94.3
    Biden, Joseph, D-Del. 94 86 98 94.2
    Sanders, Bernie, I-Vt. 90 88 98 93.7
    Menendez, Robert, D-N.J. 94 92 85 92.8
    Lautenberg, Frank, D-N.J. 94 94 79 91.7
    Leahy, Patrick, D-Vt. 90 88 85 90.2
    Boxer, Barbara, D-Calif. 88 87 93 89.8
    Reid, Harry, D-Nev. 72 94 94 89.2

I can't remember when there was a Republican Senator for CA.

Feinstein has been in office since 1992 and Boxer has been in office since 1992, after 10 years in the Congress.

You have to go back to 1976 and then 1982/1988 for one of the two Senators from CA to be a Republican.

That is 16 years with out even a chance of a bit of a Republican voice from CA to be heard. That is why the state is where it is in regards to budget issues and environmental issues and open border issues.

With Boxer and Feinstein, Rahm Emanuel has the entire state in his palm -or he can send a dead fish to gain control.

If one seat went to a Republican next year - at least a small voice could begin to be heard.

Don't mistake my posting of the excerpt to mean I support Boxer.
I'm just sorry to see that California doesn't have a better option.
