Florida parents protest pro-Islam textbook in Volusia County

Concerned parents of Volusia County, Florida last night stood in protest against a textbook used to teach world history to public high school students across the state.
Parents are complaining that the textbook devotes a full chapter to Islam while failing to offer the same attention to any other world religion.
Due to the number of protestors, the Volusia County School Board cancelled yesterday’s scheduled meeting for the interest of “public safety” according to WFTV9 news.
Prior to last night’s protest, Deltona Commissioner Webster Barnaby said that parents just want balance when it comes to their children’s education. Barnaby said, “Why relegate Christianity to a footnote in an entire history book, and you give an entire chapter on the teachings of Islam?”
WFTV9 reported on November 4:
The Volusia County Schools website states that Florida’s Department of Education adopted Prentice Hall’s World History in accord with Florida’s Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS).
